how do I get rid of fleas with no pesticides.
Comments (12)I figured out why my flea-less dog got fleas all of a sudden. It is his dog food! Nutro has changed it formula and dogs all over the country are getting ill and some dying. Ill dogs attract fleas. Here are a few links about the sickness nutro is causing. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/nutro.html http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008/04/pet_food_recalls93.html http://www.rateitall.com/i-24984-nutro.aspx http://www.voy.com/211161/ Nutro was bought out by mars candy and iams (we are feeding our cat) was bought out by Purina. We are in the process of switching the dog to evo and the cat to merrick. Evo does not have fish flavors (that the cat prefers). Both are grain free formulas. The dog gets raw organ and beef 2 times a day, but nutro only in the morning. Hubby hates the thought of touching the raw stuff. Can't get the cat interested in the raw food at all Want to switch your animal to a better brand check out this link http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ They only rate the dog foods, but I would guess a good quality dog food brand might also make good cat foods. the deaths of dogs from poor quality dog foods saddens me greatly. the symptoms our dog has in common with the other ill dogs are peeing in the house diarrhea dark urine red itchy skin vomits up undigested food occasionally dry heaves Unfortunately, other's dogs have died from liver and or kidney failure, and some only after eating the new brand for only for 4 days. I would never post something bad about a company like this except I can see the same symptoms in my corgi. The vet assumes urinary tract infection but can't get urine from him to test. Antibiotics no helping. If someone wants to start a thread on a forum please do so. This info needs to get out! please post the link to the new post here. so I other's can find it easier....See MoreHow do I get rid of smoke odors?
Comments (13)I don't know if it's still available, but I've seen Kilz paint. It has the sealer and the paint mixed together. If you want to try cleaning before painting, try TSP. It's far more effective than the combination of things you mentioned. BTW-I don't think an unremovable, hard-wired smoke detector exists. Even hard wired detectors require batteries in case of an electrical outage. The detector must be removed for battery replacement. I live in an area with a large population of young renters. My city just adopted an ordinance requiring hard wired detectors in all rentals. It was quite controversial, and I learned a lot about smoke detectors in the local reports about the ordinance. People will find a way to remove them. Sounds stupid, but it happens....See MoreHow do you get rid of a layer of dust from remodeling?
Comments (29)Here's one point about vacuuming extra fine construction dust that no one has made yet & it's key. When I went to buy a new brush attachment at the vacuum store to clean up our construction dust, the staff person educated me about a couple of things. Since the bag in our vacuum was paper, the ultra fine dust will flow right through it. Why didn't I think of that! Even with a thick, cloth HEPA vacuum filter bag, we run the risk of burning out our vacuum because anything that goes into the bag goes through the motor. Once that fine dust hits the motor, it doesn't take long for it to kill it. A Dyson being bagless won't work either, it just coats the inside of the vacuum, clogs & kills it. Here's further info. on that: http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?4407 He added that he's seen a brand new Kirby vacuum cleaner motor burned out after just TWO DAYS when it was used on construction dust. Kirby owners be forewarned! The suggestion of using a Rainbow vacuum is a good one because of the water filer. Of course they cost a small fortune, so I'm wondering if maybe a local rental store might rent them. It's not ideal, but neither is dropping $2K on a top end vacuum cleaner. And Mr. Rings, hopefully it goes without saying that a leaf blower is a horrible idea, unless your goal is to simply spread the dust around. ;-) I'm still figuring out how to clean up our mess, but hopefully the info. I've shared will save some from ruining their vacuum cleaners & causing undue added expense & frustration. Happy cleaning & good luck to all!...See MoreIs this a roof rat? Comments (8)So shortly after all this I placed out some *set* snap traps and nearly caught the rat pictured above. I didn't set it out properly though and it got away - heard that I should have baited them unset and left them out with the trap perpendicular to the wall where the spring on the kill-side should face the wall (is that correct?). Then after several days of the bait getting taken, set the trap. Anyway, after that incident the problem went away for a while. Fast-forward to this past week, I walked out there and apparently tracked fleas back in, realizing it *after* getting bitten :( I also noticed rat droppings. I sprayed down the deck yesterday and checked it again this morning - tons of fleas and several more rat droppings, so it's definitely active. I had set the traps (unset but baited with walnuts & cashews) prior to this) but no action. This time I smeared some PB and placed parmesan cheese rinds on the unset traps. Will be monitoring for the rat(s) - I have the camera set up again. I just have two traps - a Tomcat and a Victor. I placed one on each side of the shed. Will post updates as things progress (assuming they do and there's activity)....See Morecindyb_va
