Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade, but a word of warning for the unwary. Sounds great doesn't it? 10 different cultivars on one understock. Can I let you in on some practical aspects of these offers, made to entice those who often know little better than to part with their money. It is usual to put 2 buds onto a standard understock. One, to give a bit of insurance should one bud not take, and two, to provide a balanced head, given that the buds are implanted on opposite sides of the stock, one slightly below the other. Usually both take and to begin with we have an acceptably robust plant. However after a few years one of the scions (usually the lower) does better than the other, which eventually dies. The lower scion gradually expands to enclose the entire head of the understock, in effect starving the upper scion of nourishment, and it dies. Very rarely is it the other way around. If you apply this logic to stock budded up with 10 cultivars, it follows that in 10 years you will have a 3' standard of the lowest budded cultivar. In addition to this, the cultivars mentioned are not vigorous enough to make a balanced plant at 6' height. They do have names of popular and reliable cultivars to lure the punters. Iceberg and Bonica are OK at tops 4' height understocks, while 6' understocks are usually reserved for the weeping or procumbent cultivars, to give that much larger, weeping and/or umbrella form. Hey, but in the end it's your money.

I've had a Maxwell sofa in Berkshire pewter for a year now. A bit darker than smoke obviously (especially if you're just looking at the images on RH's website), but it has gotten noticeably lighter with the continuous use (as expected of the material). It looks phenomenal like this and the corresponding softening of the leather is the exact reason I'd suggest these to anyone. I can't speak to the leather Moore and Giles uses; they have the same names, does that mean they come from the same tannery and/or sure the exact same process? For what it's worth (and to answer your question about longevity), as long as these aren't seriously abused (like having pets tear them with their nails, not wiping off any spills that could chemically attack the leather), they should easily fulfill your generational ambitions. The Berkshire becomes more supple and lighter with use, which is why the display sofas in a RH store that have been sat on by countless heinies feels amazing (especially compared to a brand new piece). I can only assume the lightening effect holds true to the Berkshire you're looking at (if we assume the same tannery/process)., so both of your goals (lightest color possible and longevity) should be met (and I'd wager exceeded). Sorry I can't assist with the specific Moore and Giles products, first I've heard of them actually. I checked out their site a bit before replying, and while the 2 sofas they have available (currently at least) look nice enough (the Garland especially looks like a very clean design), with the price I'd honestly try to nudge you in the direction of the RH Maxwell. But everyone has their own flavor of course, and as I don't work for them or receive a commission, that's the extent of my sales pitch for it, haha.
