DH watches TV all the time!
Comments (5)I have a friend who used to do that, and she still turns it on as soon as she gets up, and can't fall asleep without it. I noticed it when she stayed with me for a few days and wanted *my* TV on all the time...drove me nuts, and when I asked her, she said the same thing your hubby did - it's the noise, not the actual TV. With her, I just told her I thought it was unhealthy, and that I couldn't stand having it on at my place all the time, though I didn't care what she did at her own place. So while she was there, whenever we weren't watching something and she turned it on, I just turned it off (reflexively). LOL We're pretty close friends - she realized what a problem it was when she had to keep turning it back on (and was really "aware" of it for the first time), and has been working on it since then, or so she says. My MIL does the same thing - no talking to her though. She's having a *really* hard time understanding why DH and I opted *not* to have cable TV...she can't imagine how anyone could live with just the 5 stations we get with our antenna. I'm just glad I don't have to live with that...luckily, her son sees it for the "noise" it is, and doesn't have that problem. I'm kind of suprised you didn't notice it before though - my DH and I just got married after dating for around 7 yrs as well (living apart), and by the time we got married, we'd spent enough time at each other's places that I was pretty used to his habits already, good and not-so-great. ;-) Can you ask your DH if he'd be willing to try the radio instead of the TV during the morning/day? It's still noise, but at least it might be easier for *you* to put up with instead of the TV all the time...might be a decent compromise if he'll agree to it. Probably not much chance of changing that particular behavior though if he's been doing it so long and you've already talked to him. Sorry......See MoreDH just called
Comments (5)Thank you. Growing up, my father owned a construction company, so we were always on the 'anti-union' side of the fence. He and my father used to argue about them, but over the years, I think DH is starting to come around and see the damage unions and collective bargaining do to GOOD workers like him. But that's another story, isn't it? The one time DH's union did go out on strike, one coworker was threatening that he was going to have to put salad dressing on his front yard! And when they did go back to work 3 weeks later, I showd DH, that the difference between what the company was offering when they went out, and the tiny bit they upped the deal after the strike was minimal. It was going to take 2.5 years (of a 3 year contract) before he recouped the money he LOST by being on strike for 3 weeks!!! Don't guys ever figure these things out for themselves?...See MoreBM Called to Lecture DH
Comments (24)Proverbs 16:18-19 tells us that "pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud." Easter as celebrated by Christians is a conglomeration of Pagan rituals/spring celebrations. Even the name "Easter" comes from the Scandinavian "Ostra" and the Teutonic "Ostern" or "Eastre". They are both Goddesses of mythology signifying spring and fertility whose festival was celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox. Religion is a man-made invention that often has nothing to do with God or Godliness. People may consider themselves Christian and go to church to celebrate Christ as being risen... but for those who are skeptical about the Christian timeline (ahem) they may be open minded enough to go to church over Easter and take joy in the celebration of renewal, of life, of Spring knowing that is the original meaning behind the celebration. At least, if I had to go to church with someone for Easter, I would take a page from your book, Ulrike, and look to the historical significance of the holiday and take pleasure from that instead of balking simply because I do not believe Christ is risen. Or, the Christians could admit they piggy-backed on the holidays of the Pagans and Jews and utilize items that are symbolical for Pagans and have nothing to do with Jesus(the incredibly randy rabbit and the red eggs) and start calling their holiday "resurrection Sunday" or something of the sort. Kind of hard to get young children to want to be Christians without all the jingle bells and whistles though......See MoreWhy DH Didn't Call
Comments (17)"...Our "detoxing" that we do after intrusive encounters with BM are a way we reconnect...." I may be wrong on this, but it sounds like the two of you connect over your 'recovery' from BM. That is keeping her in your intimate life as much as discussing the religion to begin with. IMO, you need to exorcise this issue from your lives entirely. Figure out something to say... and then say it. Every time. With no deviation. If she continues, simply tell her that you're very sorry, but you have your opinion and you will have to respectfully disagree. Then change the subject or leave the room. Do not play into this game, and do not have a pow-wow about it later with DH. You are stirring the hornets nest. "...But the thing that makes me the angriest is that after years of calming the waters on this matter, I'm going to have to deal with a tempest in a teapot again. If she brings it up with me, I am going to say "Oh, we became Satanists last week," ha! Or maybe "Oh, I am about to become a nun and DH is entering the priesthood...." I can understand you feeling like this. I tell those who come to my door that we are Jewish. They leave us alone. But that is just provoking her more. Absolutely positively do not provoke her. I don't know if I'm spot on or if I'm completely off base, but it sounds like you're getting some "we're so alike, BM's not, we're better suited, the issue of religion was a catalyst in DH/BM's divorce but we don't have that problem, so what's her problem-itis". While that may be good in the beginning of a relationship, discussing what went wrong and why the marriage dissolved, I don't think it's healthy to continue that into the future. Find another way to bond with DH. REMOVE her from the picture entirely, except as her relationship to her children. That should be nurtured. But then, I think all relationships for children should be nurtured: Grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins/etc. Children should have as much family showing solidarity as possible. AND, I can understand you being pissed about DH not calling. If my DH were out of town, and got into a heated argument with anyone... and decided... yes, that's what your DH did, was he DECIDED not to call you, I would be really hurt and upset. But that is because my DH and I talk on the phone constantly, several times a day, when we are commuting home, etc. When we are traveling separately, I will call him, even if it's just to say... 'I'm really busy, I can't talk. I love you.' And he will do the same. Texting works too, when we don't have time to talk....See More- 25 years ago
