It takes a lot to get me to turn off a movie but I've definitely done it. I'm trying to convince myself to do it more often instead of suffering through something. I sometimes either fast forward through just to see what happens at the end, or otherwise occupy myself (go through the mail, sew on a button, etc.) while letting the movie run, just in case something good actually does happen. One movie I was forced to sit through because we were watching it with friends and they wanted to finish it, but that I would have definitely turned off was Rachel Getting Married. OMG was that a horrifically painful and boring movie. I'm a huge fan of Coen Brothers films so all the ones mentioned above that people hated, I loved. I guess I just have the same sense of humor as they do. Also, Moulin Rouge, it took me about 20-30 minutes into the movie to actaully "get it" but once I did, I fell in love. I also watch a good number of foreign films. Subtitles don't bother me and I've seen some really good movies that I would have otherwise missed. Language and violence in general don't bother me. However graphic personal violence where we're forced to witness one person making another suffer on screen is not tolerable to me. I agree about M. Night Shyamalan too. And if you don't like him, don't see The Happening (his latest). I hate preachy movies that "warn" us of all the bad things that will happen to us if we don't start taking care of the earth. Ick. I get the vast majority of my movies in dvd form from the library. I have access to two public library systems and between them I see all the new releases and lots of oldies, indies and foreign films. I do have to wait for some of the more popular movies but I don't mind. I reserve movies on line, and pick them up at my local branches on the way home from work when they come in. It's free and I get to keep them for 2 weeks.

Bumblebeez - whenever I happen upon Last of the Mohicans while channel flipping I stop immediately and watch it again. It gets me every time. Last night it was on AMC - Story Notes, an AMC feature where they insert captions at the bottom of the screen with brief 'notes' about the film. It's the first time I watched one - the notes were interesting the first time, but I wouldn't want to see it that way again. My 19 year old DD saw it last night, in her words it was "really good". I always read reviews at Rottentomatoes.com. They have critic reviews as well as consumer ones. "Bride Wars" is getting about 45% positive reviews there from the public. I guess if you want to go see a good movie.. chose "Gran Torino'" with Clint Eastwood. Looks like it is getting the best reviews.. along with "Benjamin Button" (which I saw and loved!). Here is a link that might be useful: Reviews for Bride Wars

We also saw it ... twice. I have enjoyed almost every Clint Eastwood movie out there & this was no exception. It didn't hurt that we owned a 1972 Gran Torino Sport with mag wheels, fog lights & the racing stripe down the side. It was Anaconda Gold with white interior. Had that car for 10 yrs. Hubs & I both loved that car & have looked for one a couple times, more to reminisce (sorry, spelling) than anything. The racial slurs were huge but play a large part in the movie. Go see it, you won't regret it.
