Looks a lot like a color a friend had in her house, a Behr color, "Praline" was in the name, that's all I remember. Or one of the BM Historical Colors?

BM Audubon Russet?

I checked Audubon Russett, but this mystery color seems to have more brown in it....

I just don't get it. It is a beautiful color, but dark...so why doesn't it look like a dark room? It looks like there is some white, but not much...so is the trick the amount of sunlight the room gets? I love these kinds of colors but have also seen photos in which they make the room look too dark. Just trying to sort through what makes it work. Sorry I can't help with the color name, and I don't mean to hijack the thread...

I was thinking the same thing --- dark color but in this case makes the room look classy, not dark.

I'm thinking the two buffet lamps, the chandy, the large window, the mirror on the wall reflecting light and the glass-top on the table. Maybe all those things help to keep the room reflective instead of dreary?

I dunno, just guessing about the reflection of light making the room so purdy, but I sure love that color, actually I love the whole room.

I also love the paint color and love the whole room.

I tried everything I could think of to find that person. I did see the picture was taken jan 10th which is pretty recent. THINK... what was the name of the thread?

It looks a lot like BM New Chestnut or SW Smokey topaz. That room is gorgeous. Is that a model home? Never thought of using dark colors with such results.

Any other ideas???? I keep hoping that this is a picture of someone's room here and they'll pop in with the exact color!!

I bet it's dark when the sun goes down, LOL.... Look at the sun pouring into that room! The photo looks overexposed...

Or... if it's a commercial photo, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a huge lamp mounted outside that window.

I'd like to see what the room looks like at night.

Just remember, even if you do find out the name of the color, it will look different in your home. I am always a little baffled that people think they can just use the same paint they see in another home (particularly if it is shown on a website and subject to monitor variations) and get the same result in their own space. IMO, knowing the color used elsewhere is only a starting point for picking a color.

As for colors that look dark but aren't... I have EK Ashen Green in my study and it is one of those colors that "reads" dark, but really isn't. Ashen Green is a medium green, and therefore does not make the room feel excessively dark. But it does have a dark, library-green feeling to it.

If you're looking for a similar feeling, first you have to consider the light inherent to the room you are painting. And then you may have to do a little trompe l'oil, either moving up or down in depth to achieve the look you want.

I agree that BM Audubon Russet is a good place to begin. It is a much loved color. Get a sample, put it on a board and if it isn't exactly what you want, figure out why and go from there. Have fun!

Behr Fresh Praline?

My basement family room is painted in a colour that looks just like this, and as one other poster above mentioned, it looks very close to Behr New Chestnut. I chose New Chestnut after scanning a Ralph Lauren colour chip and the Behr match was New Chestnut. The chip itself doesnt look anywhere near as deep and rich as it will when a whole room is painted.

In my bedroom I have a color that looks a lot like that one. If i remember correctly the color is BM Merryville Brown. I LOVE it.

I posted that picture. It was from a model home of the home I'm building. I know it's Glidden brand paint, but I don't know the color for sure. I can call the model home and ask what color they used though. I would think they'd have the answer!

Okay, sorry. First I have to remember WHICH model home it was in. There are three models of that house in different places around the city, and I've been to all of them! Stay tuned.

Tanders, the paint color is Glidden Mushroom Cap. :)

I fell in love with a similar color used by Candice Olson in a basement redo. The color was called Rusty Nail (BM). When I went to check it out at our local BM store, they didn't have a clue. Of course, the Canadian colors are given different names--the U.S. color name is Terra Mauve. Maybe this will help!

I realize that this color will look different in my home than it does in the picture, but at least I have a starting point from where to start working trying to find a color that will work well with my lighting situation. I've looked at a lot of colors in the terracotta family, but thought this color was especially intriguing. I have made note of all the other suggestions so if doesn't work out for me, I'll check out the others. Thanks again!

Darn...can't find a color called mushroom cap on Glidden's color viewer. I did however find a color called Copper Coin that looks very much like it....

I found this on Rate my space. Is is possible that they gave Karen 76 the wrong paint color? The glidden paint # for Mushroom cap is 20yy/55/151.

Hmmm...that definitely doesn't look like the paint in the dining room. And I don't think it's the picture, because it looked darker than that in person, too. He seemed pretty sure about it when he told me "mushroom cap". I suppose it's possible the people who decorated the model did a little paint mixing or something?

Hi. I used Glidden Mushroom Cap about 12 years ago in a previous home. I can with 100% accuracy tell you that the dark copper brown that tanders posted is NOT Mushroom Cap. In the RMS picture that dawnp posted, Mushroom Cap is the color in the DR and stair picture. Brown Bag is what is in the FR. Tinder Box looks close.

something close may be RL River Rock Brick? Not sure if it is made anymore...
