Knobs on the uppers-all doors, pulls on the lowers-mix of doors and drawers. Here's my reasoning: the pulls won't catch on my clothing or on the grandkids...and it's easier to put the child safety cabinet locks through the pulls. I don't know if either of those issues apply to you but our 5 visiting munchkins range in age from 12 months to 9 years so we needed to consider their safety in some of our decisions. I'm in the process of marking off the hole so DH and I can install the hardware tonight when he gets home...if I absolutely hate it I'll let you know. That's my 2-cents worth.

Hi, I just went thru this exact same problem on Monday. The granite guy and the plumber were both at my townhouse. I had the same type of sink except it was an Elkay ELU 2118 (D shaped). The faucet I ordered, a Brizo Floriano has a 3 inch base and requires 2" for the operating handle to move back. The sink is approximately 20" wide and my KD wanted me to have a granite backsplash (which would take up an inch from the faucet handle). Sherilynn on this web site happened to mention how that faucet wouldn't work with a granite backsplash. Thanks to her tip, I had the plumber and the granite guy try out the configuration. Just like what you're going thru now, the faucet mounted in the center wouldn't work with that sink. The only way to make everything work is if I mounted the faucet on the side front corner. Unfortunately, I'm way too sloppy when I do dishes and I would have water all over the place. Not to mention that I planned cork floors in the kitchen. I spent all day Tuesday looking for a comparable sink that would be more rectangular (21" x !5") and that I could get ASAP as the fabricator is ready to install the granite now. That is how I resolved that problem. But it cost me $200 between getting a new sink and returning the other sink. I'm also pretty mad at my KD for not alerting me to this problem. Once again the GW forum has put my KD to shame. Although the KD is adamant that the faucet has a big enough arch that dish washing with the faucet on the side wouldn't be a problem. For me this configuration wouldn't work. But hopefully your faucet will have a big enough arch that it won't matter for you. Aren't these last minute problems stressful? Best of luck! Karen

Thank you both! Both pictures are beautiful - although quite formal. Unfortunately I don't have a fireplace in the middle, just a brown couch with a mirror hanging over it! Maybe I'll keep looking at different options. I love the window treatments that my3dogs has in her home...I remember seeing directions around here too. ajsmama, good luck with your windows too!

In the FR against the Kitchen/pantry wall, we plan to put in some tall cabinets of some sort for books and other storage and maybe the TV/stereo components as well as put a 36" desk between them. That wall is 82-3/4" right now (it extends about 4' beyond the kitchen) plus we're adding another 18" or so to that wall for the pantry. That means we will have 100-3/4" to work with. We'll probably put in a 30" cabinet + 36" desk + 30" cabinet, all at least 24" deep. The desk may be 30" deep. That's the plan anyway. However, that will not be for at least a year or two. We need to save the $$$ to do it. But before then, we'd like to put in a DIY Mudroom in our Garage. We need someplace for all the clutter, etc. We might be able to put the Message Center there, but I'm not sure we'll have the room...it's going to be a small Mudroom (we're taking a 5' x 10' bite out of one garage bay to do this...we will still have room to park a car in that bay, but just barely!) So, in the mean time...I guess we'll have to find someplace else. The Pet Center is where we plan to store the dogs' food, collars, leashes, etc. We feed them right around the corner in front of the PR where there is a little setback b/w the kitchen & PR. The counter above is my baking center...I don't think I want to put a phone, keys, etc. where the flour may be flying! My KA Mixer will also be housed in that corner on the counter. [We have 2 standard poodles, around 45 pounds & 55 pounds.] Ruby & Shea (sister & brother) I have just about every counter and cabinet planned out! Perhaps I could put the landline phone & answering machine on the DR peninsula...although, there will be prep sink in that corner and it's pretty far from the FR...I'll have to think some more!
