Quartersawn oak kitchens?

I'd love to see some quartersawn oak kitchens. I am helping a friend build a new kitchen and I told him I would source some photos. A lot of the results on google don't show the full layout so I'd like to know if anyone here has examples (looking at you boxer!).

It doesn't seem to be the most popular kitchen style but his house is kind of arts and crafts style. Thanks in advance.

These are "in progress" pictures, but here are mine. We're going for a bit of a modern Mission look, so that might be exactly what you're looking for. Feel free to look around the rest of the set--you can see the before pictures, the computer-generated layout, and the progress pictures.

I didn't think it stunk too badly. At least not more than I expected a finish to smell. Kind of like paint - some people think paint smells awful, I think it just smells like paint. I did my 125yr old library floor (red oak we think) in a custom stain (a rich reddish color) with Waterlox - it looks amazing. We're just about to finish the floor to ceiling (birch & pine) bookcases in there with Waterlox too. They're also stained, but not the same color as the floor, a color that matches the older woodwork in the house (something between a golden oak and an old hickory). If you try Waterlox, I think you'll like it! Always ;-) Hunzi

Breezygirl: That's it!! Guess I didn't remember the details too well, but that's definitely the one. I liked the mix of contemporary and old. Anyway I'm glad I started this thread and got folks talking about maintaining a gallery of sorts. I'm obviously inept at technology since I couldn't manage to find anything but "Colorful Mexican Kitchens." lol (You know what's funny? I never even remember seeing the Colorful Mexican Kitchens threads on here, yet that's the only thing that ever shows up in my searches.) So once again, thanks GW for coming together to help a soul out.

Thanks for the compliments, and the suggestions for the panel front beside the oven. I think that is a great idea! I guess I should clarify that I had to make the decisions for the layout of the cabinets and the type of wood for the cabinet maker in 1 week. He gave me samples of the wood to take to paint store where they stained the samples for me to take home and look at in my light. And I took home ALL the samples of cambria and placed every single one against my paint/stain/floors to choose. So I had a lot longer to make those decisions. I had a little miscommunication with my cabinet maker. I thought I was getting more drawers on the bottom and less doors. When he said "pull-outs" I thought he meant drawers, where as he really meant a cabinet door with pull-out drawer-type shelves behind them. This really makes getting items out a 2-step process, but I do like that these "pull-outs" come ALL the way out. And I love my soft close, but now I find I'm shutting doors and drawers very loudly in the bath and laundry. I NEED them everywhere! catbuilder I took a close up of backsplash with my iphone, but haven't figured out how to post it yet. I'll search for instructions.

We are overwhelmed and touched by your responses. Thank you all for your time and thoughts! I'm amazed that so many of you have gone with quartersawn oak --I see so few in the magazines and on the gallery here, but of course someone's buying it or there wouldn't be so many cabinet companies offering it. Cotahele and sombriuel mongrel, your kitchens are GORGEOUS -- and very period appropriate. Cotahele, I love the giant windows. The cabinetry blends with them perfectly, and the overall effect is definitely sunny and warm (great gold wall color!). Sombriuel mongrel, I really love the shellac. I 'rejuvenated' all the oak trim on our old house, so I appreciate the work involved and the rich glow that results. It looks 'like it was always there' (only better). Boxerpups, I don't know how you come up with a slew of pictures for every situation. I also loved looking at the Kennebec and Crown Point kitchens sumitted by others -- I looked at them years ago, but only saw the white... Thank you all!

Here's a close up picture of a cabinet door in my old kitchen which was renovated in 2001. The kitchen itself is so outdated per GW standards, I didn't bother with a pic of the entire kitchen, just thought I'd show you the beauty of QS oak.

MIne is only partially qs oak...just top cabs.And the last doors, etc. have yet to go on. But perhaps they will help. Note that in the first pic, the hood was not QS and didn't have the tile. The right hood is in the following picture.

My heart does a pitter patter (insert sigh) when I see these QS oak cabinets. I am loving that shot of the minty green? in MelissaStar's pics. Gorgeous!!!

Keystone wood specialties has some nice white oak quartersawn doors. I think they are under mission style. These are just individual door photos but gives you some different door designs in this style to look at.

Yes mine is...but it isn't Arts and Crafts style so I was hesitant to post it again. There's a pic in the senators' link Heres a couple of close-ups of what made us fall in love with this wood.

From a distance and with a cell phone camera the graining is less obvious

Here are my quarter sawn oak cabinets in my laundry room. It is almost finished. Just need hardware, faucet and some painting. There is a shower in this room so the counter cabinet holds towels etc. Made by the Amish.
