NO!!!

We had the built in all refrigerator/all freezer Monogram units.

We had HUGE problems with mold growing in the trip tray right next to the open wire produce baskets. GE told us it was acceptable and refused to do any warranty repairs. When we said complained further, after all everything in the fridge for more than a week (think bottles etc) was getting moldy, they said it couldn't be repaired anyways.

The freezer had so much frost, you couldn't close the drawers, hence the door didn't close properly and we lost a ton of food.

Fortunately for us, our appliance comapany, Abt (chicago) took them back. We LOVE our new Miele's but they weren't cheap.

GE is a horrible brand. My brother in law had side by side fridge that went out within 3 months of first buying it in their new home. GE, after much complaints and my BIL threatening to get a lawyer, replaced it with a smaller unit which my brother in law gave to my mother in law because it was too small for his groceries. My mother in law had a lot of problems with it within the week of getting it. My BIL and MIL both state that they will never buy another GE product. This was not the first issue with GE. My MIL had a washer and dryer set that quit working within a day of each other after only having it almost a year. My BIL had a dishwasher that quit working right after the fridge. I have no confidence in GE. When we build, we are going to go with Subzero, Wolf, and U-Line products.

Wow! Good to know! I was under the impression that Monogram as a whole had really good customer service. I thought it was cool that finally another company is jumping in on the full integration. After talking to hubby again it sounds like it would take a whole lotta nonsense to change it up now anyway.

TiffanyLA, GE is a horrible brand? Now you're scaring me. We already bought our Monogram 48" range w/6burners and a griddle. Is it just their refrigeration or the company as altogether?

Anyone with Subzeros? Love 'em? Like 'em? Hate 'em?

In general I think you are better off going with a known quantity that at least has a verifiable repair record for that type of product. Subzero, love'em or hate'em, has been making built-ins or integrated fridges longer than anyone else in the US that I am aware of.

I like my Subzero a lot but I had a fan motor fail and and recently a coil failure, so I have spent about $700 in service and purchased the unit in 2003. I think that SZ had a bad batch of copper that they made coils out of and I got one of those. So, they are not flawless, but they have a history. They do keep food fresher longer and I have lost less things to freezer burn than in my previous fridges.

A new product line from any company is an unknown. I can't talk about Monogram at all never having owned any appliance of this brand. I don't think you can really compare quality across products any more, so a company may make a great cooktop or DW but a lousy fridge.

I saw the GE monogram built in frig in person- it looks amazing! I would have loved to have it but price was a problem. I also really liked their double wall ovens etc the whole line is impressive- if you have a PC Richards near you that is where I went to look at them. I couldn't afford the price tag so went with a kitchen aid counter depth which matches my thermador double wall ovens, warming drawer, cooktop and dishwasher.

There are some concerns with Monogram wall ovens. They don't necessarily bake evenly. I do know people who are satisfied with their Monogram ranges, though they aren't big bakers.

I have Monogram Advantium (speed cook oven), warming drawer and dishwasher, which I've been using for about a year. A bit less on the DW. They all work fine. There are better DWs, but mine suits some strange preferences I have. Warming drawers are too simple to screw up, and my Monogram doesn't have an electronic controls to make problems. The Advantium is the same guts as any but better looking than the GE ones. It works very well, and the microwave part is the best MW I've ever used. The speed oven takes a lot of learning, is rather miraculous, but I'm more of a slow food cook, and don't use it to its full potential.

So, you see, I'm not prejudiced against Monogram and GE, but I still wouldn't go for those new fridges, both because of their newness (and, unlike a DW, say, fridges aren't something you can do without) and because of the reputation of their previous models.

Palimpsest is right about the copper tubing thing in the SubZeroes. It's a known, specific problem that has been corrected. If you live in a place with a lot of particulates in the air you really do need to vacuum the coils every six months as you're told to in the instructions. If you don't, you can screw up the compressors. Ice makers on all fridges are known as the weak link, and SZ is no exception. Those are all the negatives I know to SubZero. People will moan on sometimes about hating them and needing repairs, but when I ask them the repairs are usually from one of the three things above, or age (as in the unit is past the average age where a freestanding brand would have to be replaced, and a $350 repair on a SubZero can make it like new).

Most old SubZeros run without trouble for over twenty years. They are slow to adopt new technology because they want to keep their machines in that category. I think you're right about the old fashioned that works. And they work very well!! I like the layout of most SubZero models a lot. I ended up with Miele because the 30" worked much better for me, and I think it's just as good. I've never been annoyed by a SubZero, however. A lot of appliances annoy me because they don't work as well as I want them to. SZ's are good machines.

We have a GE Monogram SxS and dual fuel range - over 5 years now. The ice maker did go out on the fridge (covered under warranty) and the range had a recall just after we purchased. Easily solved. I don't have any complaints with the products at all.

Thanks for bringing the GE Monogram fully integrated refrigerators to our collective attention. I hadn't seem them before and now I will certainly check them out the next time I'm appliance shopping. (I'm also looking for a fridge for my new kitchen.) They look gorgeous! In terms of design features they seem to have taken the best of the new Miele and Thermador look and combined it with that cool Sub-Zero glass door. I'm still leaning toward Sub-Zero for its history of quality and made-in-America/support-our-economy appeal. But the GE Mongrams sure do look great. If they cost considerably less than Sub-Zero, they could be a great alternative for many people.
