After an hour of looking on the web I found a company in Berkeley CA that has stainless steel (304) chicken wire in the size I wanted (1' mesh). It's not as expensive as other stainless steel wire mesh/cloth I found previously. I am going to purchase a 48' * 100 ' roll. Does anyone living in the Santa Rosa, CA area want to purchase half the roll? Sounds like there are 2 or 3 different products being discussed. I've had better luck growing vines on wooden supports, like lattice, than on anything made of wire - the wire apparently heats up too much in the sun and fries the tendrils of everything from sweet peas to cukes. My mom uses netting strung on metal or wood stakes for vine crops. My veggie garden fence was made from semi-rigid wire (I think it's called turkey wire) and I've never had good results growing vines up that wire. Do you think that because the wire is so thick on these it would not heat up as much?

I didn't mean to express the opinion that oxy-fuel welding is obsolete, just passing on the message we got in class. And I think the message was that oxy welding is simply not used much any more in industrial production welding. It's just not efficient enough to compete with electric methods. For home stuff or non-production work of course it's still in use and probably will be for a very long time. I was somewhat disappointed oxy-fuel welding wasn't taught in the summer welding class I took, but then we covered over six welding methods in six weeks so the schedule was packed. These methods included: stick, flux, mig, TIG, oxy-cutting, plasma cutting, carbon-arc cutting. I spent one week each (12 hrs/week) on stick, flux, and MIG, and three weeks on TIG. I was told that if I had already known how to gas weld, that TIG would come easier. So that was a real challenge. I was able to produce a passable bead on steel but aluminum and stainless kind of eluded me. Although I think that with more practice and better settings I could have nailed those as well. For my home use, I think an AC/DC stick unit, as well as a MIG/Flux unit, would be best. I've got a small MAPP/OXY setup, which was good for some nickel brazing, and cutting.

The green grounding wire and the white wire coming from the right side of the box are a bit of a mystery. What were they connected to? Are you sure there is not a black wire with them? Also, are there bare or green grounding wires coming from the top and bottom? Is the receptacle a GFCI (with a "test" and "reset" button)? If you can confidently answer these questions, especially the mystery ground and white wire, we ought to be able to help you. Otherwise, it would be best to call an electrician. A switch loop is the only place black would connect to white, and the white would have to be reidentified with a black marker or black paint at each end. But in your case, it does not appear to be a switch loop.
