Not sure you need any help! Everything you have picked above is calm and soothing and so lovely together! Is there something in particular holding you back?

What I pick up from your inspiration pics is

1. painted furniture

2. cool blues with warm cream/brown tones

3. some wood tones introduced as an accent (chair, bamboo blinds).

4. modern country accents

5. solid color window panels hung on rings.

Your style reminds me of my favorite hotel. Wish they had your chairs! Really love the curved arms. These pics aren't color correct.

The hotel professional designer calls this style coastal Nantucket.

You know what might be kinda cool....since your DH can build - make the wall behind your bed similar to the one behind your inspiration bed. But - in a style that matches the door that goes to the attic ( I presume) that way that door would just disappear. You would not even have to buy a bed frame then. You could paint it to match your exsisting pieces in the creamy white.

I love all the accent pieces you've shown, especially the chairs. Really really nice. I'm wondering if the bed you are considering would match up with such light, airy things? Is that leather on the headboard? Can't tell for sure. You do seem to like the rounded headboard...I notice the new bed is very similar to the old one. Do you think it will be enough of a change for you?

Your inspiration pictures are gorgeous. They style read warm, understated but elegant and serene. I love different shades of blues together. Okay, I'm a blue person also. Currently working in teals both dark and light.

Definitely get the bed. You can make it all work together. You are fortunate to have a DH who builds furniture.

I think the bed you picture could work, but it would be safer to do a painted bed. Especially with the painted wood in the office. I'm worried the wood top of the office cabs will not work with the wood of the bed. I'd look for a similar but painted bed.

Do the bamboo blinds on your windows and frame them with white or cream panels. Paint the whole room including ceiling in a blue similar to the ones in the pic.

Find a white or cream cotton duvet set and Euro pillow shams and then do accent pillows in a mix of the blue of the walls and a soft brown. Find an ottoman and have it upholstered in a stripe of small dot pattern of blue and cream/white and brown.

Get 2 night tables that don't match the bed and paint them either white or black. Add 2 clear glass based lamps with white or cream drum shades. Buy some cheap black frames at Target or Michael's and throw in some black and white family photos and hang them in groups on the wall (s).

I could really see a large ornately framed mirror in gold or silver too.

Are you buying new dressers too. If not I'd paint the old ones in pale shades.

Wow, you all have great ideas! Thank you so much! I think that the wall our bed is on looks funny because of that door that leads to attic storage. Hubby & I were talking tonight about making everythhing on that wall look symetrical by building a bookcase at each end of the wall and add shutters to them as doors. On the right it would actually hide the door to the attic. It would look like it was covered shelving unit but when you opened the shutter doors you would see the attic door. On the left side of the room (same wall) it actually would be real covered shelving. Then we were thinking we could add a padded headboard up to the slant of the ceiling and nightstands. Maybe mirrors above the nightstands to add some depth to the small room. I wish I could draw so that I could visualize this idea.
I hope I explained this so that you all could understand. What do you think about that idea?

I wish the stain on the wood in the office was darker but we made the built-ins to match a desk we bought from Christopher Lowell and the desk top was that color. It's a laminate or I would sand it and restain it darker.

Yeah, we are kinda on the same wavelength.....building something to incorporate the door into the design. I was just thinking panels like the door to give you a different look since you have had the look of bookshelves around your bed.

What about draping that whole wall with fabric on a rod so that I could still access the door leading to attic storage? Just another idea that popped in my head. Let me know how that sounds.

I too am contemplating a master bedroom makeover. I just wanted to say that I love your inspiration photos...just the feel I am going for. Do you know who makes that fabulous wood/cane or wicker chair? I LOVE that!

Have you considered painting your existing bed white? You could start with a darker base coat to give you an antiqued/distressed look. You could leave the lower part of the pier cabinets in oak or a darker paint color to set them apart more as night stands.

Normally I'm the last person to recommend painting nice looking wood, but it would leave you more $$ for some nice chairs, beautiful bedding, etc.

We definitly do not want to keep the current bed. After 21 years of marriage we think we deserve a nice new bedroom (and bed).

I'm bumping this thread because I want to get your opinion on the bed in the post above. Do you like the bed? Do you like the nightstand? If I then got a chest of drawers should it be a stained wood (maybe walnut) or will that look like to many different colors of furniture in a small room??
