sounds like it will be great.. the white and blue seems to me to be a classic beach/sea color combo.. and I think I saw something very similar to this on an episode of Sarahs House on HGTV.. she didn't use blue but instead used a color that was more aligned with an old country farm house.. same concept thou.. just different color fits better with the house.. I don't know how to describe this but if the blue isn't too blue it will look great.

I like it. And if you like marble, do it. Search and you will find tons of threads here on marble wear and tear.

It sounds like it will reflect the surroundings perfectly. Have you considered using soapstone on the perimeter white cabs and marble (or your alternative choice) on the island? What kind of flooring will you have?

I have a white perimeter and a blue island was one of my considerations. I went with cherry for the island but did a blue wall of tall cabinets in what have been called French blue, blueberry, and a few other things. I have marble on my perimeter and I think it would be GORGEOUS with the blue on the island (especially with a chunky look). BUT -- marble is not going to be crisp and clean in a kitchen. It is going to be or become more of a softly worn look -- sanded, to make it beachy. ;-)

What kind of counter are you planning on using on the perimeter? Maybe you could do soapstone there and marble or another light surface on the blue. Would that allow you to work with the messier or more acidic things there instead of on your marble?

Maybe not quite on topic for the cabinet color, but I do have some thoughts on the countertop -

Just today, the countertop guys installed white countertops in my kitchen. The material is by Cosentino - the same folks that make Silestone - and it is their Eco line in "Polar Cap". It is a white base, with lots of teeny-tiny flecks of grey and silver - and little bitty bits of mirrors that sparkle.

I would advise you to be cautious about the IceStone or Vetrazzo in the kitchen with three young children - those products are even more expensive than the Eco product, and I have heard they are more touchy. That said, I did buy IceStone in White Pearl for the guest bathroom - but I put SileStone in my 11-year-old son's bathroom so it stands up to him!

Good luck - by the way, my son's bathroom has blue cabinets in it (kind of a cornflower blue) and I think your idea will be gorgeous!

Don't be nervous it all sounds wonderful.

And as for Marble
if you love it get. People have a misconception about
marble. Marble is as easy to clean as granites. And in some
ways it is easier to repair than a Quartz. Children grow up
quickly, and children can be taught not to use permanent
sharpies on the island.

Does Marble stain?

Sure but 98% of the stains can be removed with bleach.
YES good ole fashioned Bleach. Or peroxide. But not
togehter please.

Does Marble Etch?

You bet but if once every 6-8 years you have it rehoned
or polished it will look fantastic.

Is marble hard to care for?

Marble has been around for 1000s of years. Marble is as
easy to care for as most granite or quartz.

You can't get more nautical than blue, white and wood. A wood countertop on the island with the right stain would be lovely. The white for the perimeter would be great or you could do wood perimeter counters and white for the island.
