Please help! Renovating ugly gas fireplace with glass cover
Comments (1)1) not a problem 2) replacement glass is expensive, try rutland products "white off" 3) you cant mess with the logs, the unit is tested and listed with the logs that are inside. they cant be re arranged, they cant be changed they have to be exactly like they are in the manual. If not, all sorts of problems come up. Delayed ignition, sooting, carbon mononixe etc. If you dont like the logs you have to replace the entire unit. The brass trim might be able to be replaced with blak. Look in the bottem control panel, get a make and model. and call the local dealer that sells your brand. Or post it here and i will see what i can find out....See MoreAnother call for ugly fireplace help!
Comments (15)Ok, yes, I must confess to overthinking. I hope I didn't annoy anyone with an overly dramatic call for help. Perhaps I should have titled my post, "help with builder-grade fireplace":) Thank you all for reminding me of that. grandmaof3: thanks; colorful artwork really would help! I like the idea of unframed, colorful artwork and keeping it simple. It's only naked now due to painting, but I had a large multi-candle sconce on the wall, a tall candlestick on the left, and a plate on a stand that we got in Italy. It was just ok. grlpwrs: yes, the mantle/fireplace trim is all "cream fleece", which I thought worked well with our previous wall color (Yorkshire Tan), but now looks strange to my eye. Maybe just a result of the change that I have not yet adjusted to. olychick: Thanks for the photo ideas! I will use them as a reference while I shop around.... Comments (16)I agree that the fireplace itself looks OK to me. I'd prefer it without the dark squares in each corner, but they might look better when it is all cleaned up (same for the hearth). The thing that strikes me is that there are too many different horizontal lines. This is especially true across the middle with the dado rail, mantle and top of the lower sash window all stepping up a couple inches from left to right. It is accentuated by the color change, but I would be inclined to take out the paneling altogether (unless it is there for insulation or protecting the walls). That gives you more freedom in hanging art, placing furniture, etc. I do agree that painting the walls one color would help. The color would depend somewhat on furniture, personal taste, etc. but a lighter shade would probably work better....See MoreGreenDesigns
