What do you store on your lazy susan?
Comments (18)Since we bought an existing house I'm not sure what mine is. Super susan sounds like a brand name. All I know is that my lazy susan is a lot sturdier than others I have seen. Both turntables turn 360 degrees, independantly on ball bearings. There is about a one inch lip surrounding the lazy susan, so I've never had a problem with things falling off or getting lost. Even though I just use it mainly for cans and cannisters it would be plenty sturdy to hold small appliances without a tipping issue. I'm not particularly fond of the plastic ones on poles that only cover 3/4 of a circle. I've seen many of those so I'm glad the previous owner of my house chose something a little sturdier. BTW, my cupboards did not come to a 45 degree angle in that corner. The cupboard is at an angle. Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreLazy Susan -inotherwords- A stupid Susan
Comments (16)We are getting a carpenter to build us Super Susans. I am sure you can find one too. We are making sure that he makes the circle as big as possible to avoid wasting space, and to avoid that black hole where things can fall off. By having your turntable on a fixed shelf, nothing can fall down below (could fall off the turntable if you spin too fast, but it's less likely). With the pole type LS, because the shelves often aren't perfectly level, ie because of weight issues they can tip, and things are more likely to fly off. Think about it, if you have a spice turntable (I have a rubbermaid plastic one that I think I paid 50 cents for at a garage sale), it lays flat on the shelf, and nothing flies off, and those are just small bottles. So, have a turntable on a solid shelf, make the circle as big as possible, and build up the sides a few inches, I think you can learn to like Susan....See More33" Lazy Susan corner base cabinet - do you have one?
Comments (6)ShaggyDogs - can you do a 36"x33" corner susan? It will give you a bigger opening - that's the biggest limiting factor in a 33"x33" corner susan. Corner susans can be very useful. They're great for pot & pan storage - especially if you don't have drawers for them. They're also great for small appliances. Everything is always in front. You just rotate the shelf/shelves until the item you want is in front - then easily lift it out! I loved the one in our old Kitchen. We stored all our pots & pans, colanders, and large serving pieces in one 36"x36" corner susan - it was a lazy susan (pole down the center) with the doors attached to the shelves so they rotated into the cabinet when it was open. Blind corner cabinets are useless without swing outs or roll out tray shelves (ROTS) You can't store anything in front of the ROTS b/c it needs to be clear in front of them to pull them out. Swing outs can be problematical - especially if something falls off the shelves in the interior - you have to send a small child inside to retrieve the item and you cannot close it until it's retrieved! My KD demonstrated a couple of different models for us - she said most people come back complaining about the swing outs so she moves heaven and earth to not use a blind corner! My MIL has upper and base blind corners (no ROTS or swing out) and she says they're a waste b/c it's too difficult to get into them - she doesn't store anything in the "blind" areas. You may be better off voiding out the corner if the opening is too small to be useful on a 33"x33"....or consider corner drawers, but they will probably be very expensive....See MoreNo uppers near stove; where do you store your oils and vinegars?
Comments (13)Toronto Vetenerian, Thanks. I was thinking exactly the same thing that the bottles would have all toppled the first time I pulled out the drawer quickly. Editing: we are thinking of selling our current house and moving into one of our rental houses (for tax reasons.) We would probably live there 3 to 5 years before figuring out where we want to retire. I would be giving up my beautiful kitchen. I told my husband the only way I would do this is if I got to redo the kitchens and baths in the old house. I would do it on a very tight budget. It has to be consistent with the neighborhood and the house. That would mean a huge EDITING for me. I still have some time. I am just perusing through ideas so that I can do it on a budget and still get the big bang I want....See Moresuzanne_sl
