I have a table that I started and then didn't get finished. You are inspiring me to get out there and "git r dun!" LOL I didn't get around to doing a New Years table as I was working yesterday and then we went to the New Years Eve at the zoo with my youngest DD and her family and my DM. Our zoo does what they call "Wild-lights" during the holidays and through the stock show here in Denver. They do the most fabulous light display throughout the entire zoo and then of course, have hot cocoa, popcorn, overpriced light toys, and other treats for sale, LOL It really is a spectacular light show! The weather was amazingly mild and it was just a beautiful night! Dylan (2) and Cody (5) were almost as overdressed as the younger brother in the Christmas Story movie, but were real troopers and at one point were pulling the wagon together instead of riding in it, LOL Toooo cute!!! Of course I am a bit biased, but it was a beautiful way to end the year. The reindeer were already in "bed" for the night, but there were some animals in their pavilions that could be seen in addition to the lights. Really cute table!! Happy New Year everyone, Candy

YOU ARE TOO SWEET! I felt like I was watching a home movie, but it wasn't long enough! LOL MDF~of course!! You want smooth, and can't get much smoother than that, unless it's.....plaster(gulp!). The resin mouldings are a good solution and not quite as expensive as wood~you must have spent a fortune, cause I see YOURS are all wood! So are all your interior doors solid hardwood? Pine, Oak? What's the stain color on the pantry door? How in the he** do I find a good finish carpenter??? My home is called a production home, and will only be able to make changes that don't require 'skills', like carpentry, or so that's what i'm thinking. I'm planning on using the cream cabs also(but won't be able to afford the fancy BIG twisted moulding),but not sure what the glazing is. It's one of the upgraded cab styles, so don't know the glaze used, but looks very similar to yours. I chose the Absolute Black too!!! I want a solid black and that's the only one I can find without a speck of white. I was reading a little about the black granites online, and on one of the sites it mentioned that if the granite comes from China it will fade, but didn't say why, or when it could start. Do you know where yours came from? I have a bank of cabs on an outside wall that stretches about 14', and I think i've convinced myself to go with a stain on those, and maybe a light granite, about the color of the light cabs. Don't you think you need to maintain a balance between the light and the dark? How long did your build take? I am beside myself with excitement and can't WAIT to move to TX!! Homes are *definitely* yummier in TX~think about what you would pay here for 'what's included' in a home there! Did you say you were in OC? DD lives in Trabuco Canyon~she's the other DD/DH who are thinking of moving to TX. My whole family will eventually end up there! LOL Thanks much for the wooooooooderful pics!! In the municipalities in which we work, the local building code controls and the local code official has the final say. A conversation between your architect and the local code official will hopefully overcome the impasse. If R-49 truly is required and the structure is suitable for light duty storage, the R-value can be achieved by a combination of spray and/or rigid foam insulation and blown-in insulation at reduced thickness compared with blown-in insulation alone. Plus, you'd get enhanced air sealing. I like conditioned attics, and you should consider that alternative if the structure is rated for storage or there is HVAC equipment and/or ductwork in the space. There are a number of design alternatives to achieve a conditioned attic. If you go that route, I recommend consulting with a HERS rater or energy consultant who has experience with conditioned attics in your climate zone, and preferable, who doesn't sell insulation as part of their services.
