Dottie: I'm going to top your stories....dr's office was having an anniversary celebration....serving finger foods, having hourly drawings for door prizes for the patients there at the time, etc. My name plus ONE other patient's was in the bowl at the time. You guessed it.......I lost!!!! I thought it was super funny then, and still do.

Now, on to what I did win years ago: I was chairman of a dance committee. You know, the one who ends up doing 75% of the work. The deejay I hired decided I should have the honor of drawing tickets for the door prizes. The first one I drew out was my own. He insisted that I take the prize and the crowd agreed... a box of candy.

I don't win very often, but when I was TDY in Vegas back in the 80s, the motel we were staying at opened a new little casino. So, I went over there with $20 just to waste some time and won about $2600 on their poker machine! I rented a car the rest of the time we were there and had a blast. Later won a little over $400 at another casino. I've won smaller jackpots when I was living back home (I'm from NV) but don't remember them, mostly lost.

Every year when the kids were in grade school they'd have a fundraiser and you could win baskets made by the classes (stuff parents and teachers provided went into them). I won a bath basket one year. Other than that I normally never win.

My cousin always says she's not lucky....she's blessed.

I like that thought...So I guess I'd say "NO" I'm not lucky...but I do think I'm blessed. With a good (sometimes crabby) husband and family. A warm place to stay....and all that mushy stuff...lol

The first thing I ever won was a deviled egg plate - I was about 10 at the time and I still have and use it! I also won a bike in a coloring contest, a savings bond in a writing contest when I was 15, a beanie bear from the post office, and a surprise bag at a baby shower most recently. Never win at the casinos. Hoping to win the HGTV Dream Home next month! lol

If it's a random drawing and not a contest that involves talent or beauty, I win a lot of the time. I've won a radio, cookbook, home decor items, etc.

I'm neither lucky nor unlucky, just average.

But can some one tell me if the audience on The View yesterday (Feb. 13) got some wonderful gift to take home? I had tickets but I was unable to attend. I just know that I would have won the Kimberly-Clark $25,000 home remodeling raffle had I been there.

So even thought I'm not particularly lucky I am incredibly optimistic. If I purchase a raffle ticket I just have positive thoughts that I will win. Unfortunately I guess I'm not sending out strong enough vibes to make it happen.

I believe luck is a mindset, like attitude. If you *believe* you are lucky, you will be and if you believe you are unlucky, that's what will manifest itself in your life.

I believe that on the whole, you make your own luck too. I used to in a lot of small things like jars of candy, bingo, etc., when I was younger. My kids are like that too.

I also remember entering a drawing one time with lots of prizes at an Indian Pow Wow. I ended up hoping I didn't win the grand prize - a buffalo hide. We had filled out our name and address. I don't think I could have graciously accepted that.

Super Bowl Sunday ... been attending the same party with the same people for 28 years. It is a well-known fact that I win one or more football pools every year.

I usually put my money into the main quarterly pool and then into a smaller pool run by another person. Rick, the guy who has the main pool is also the guy who hosts the annual party.

This year, at the end of a quarter, I hear Rick yelling at the top of his lungs "Jodi, Jodi, where's Jodi?" I finally yell out from the snack table where I was standing. ""I'm over here Rick." he yells out "Ha, you didn't win!". I laughed and walked back to my seat by the TV but on my way there, the gal who runs the other pool stops me and hands me a wad of money. Holding it up in the air I yelled "Ha! right back atcha Rick!" LOL

I've won a ton of stuff in my life, just don't have time right now to list it all. But ... I was especially lucky at company picnics. One year when I didn't win, I was given a prize anyhow just on principle. :-)

I won a book on an internet drawing. Had forgotten all about it, until it arrived in the mail. It was "Shabby Chic" and I thought I had bought it and forgot about it, until I opened it and saw a card.

I don't usually win things, but I don't play the lottery and seldom enter contests, but I feel like I am fairly lucky. I am very good at finding neat things for my home or yard. I have had some fairly bad injuries and recovered just fine. I don't often get sick. I don't have anyone in my family or life causing me trouble. I live in a place that is like heaven on earth to me. So in those ways, I feel like I am very fortunate, if not downright lucky.

I get cards in the mail all the time telling me "You have won one of these gifts". LOL!

Marilyn, I use to win the $50 football pool all the time. It happened so often, I was embarassed and quit playing, because their were people who needed the $50 worse than me.

I loved playing Marango Indian Bingo in California. I won $1,000 on my Birthday one year. I played Bingo here in Texas and won several times, but the pot is usually around $200.

I'm not lucky at random drawings. I hardly ever win and if I do, it's not the big stuff. However, my DH is quite lucky and not just because he has me - LOL. He's won quite a few things and stuff where the chances of winning are a long shot. But he's never won anything remotely big enough to make a dent in our bank account. I have a co-worker that won a huge amount of money (at least to me) on the lottery think 6 figures. I know still another that won a very large amount of money, 7 figures. My theory is that my good luck is rubbing off on them and so there's not enough for me. LOL. The most amazing story of good luck - there's a man in my small town of 1000, who has won the big lottery twice - well over $1 million both times and this happened in a couple of years. I think that man is very lucky. If you met him on the street or went to his house, you would never know he's rich. Hasn't changed him a bit except I notice he takes his wife out more often for dinner.

I firmly believe we make our own luck in all aspects of our lives.
I gamble now and then within my budget, most I've ever won at a Casino is $280. Won $400 playing Keno once. Won $200 in a mail in contest sponsored by Nabob coffee.
Sometimes I get an inkling that I'm going to win something, so I'll buy a scratch ticket or something like that. My family is driven nuts by it - up here in all the movie rental places they have huge gumball machines and if you get a black gumball you'll get a free rental - some days I'll walk in and just know the black one is there for me, not sure how or why. Once at a flea market I thought I was going to win a couple of door prizes - I won all 6!
I can sometimes visualize what a present is before I open it, which also really irritates the family, so I try not to blurt out "oh great, I wanted a... before I open it" LOL! It's tough sometimes, this past Christmas I knew the big box was a computer chair, I didn't peak, I swear, in fact it wasn't even in my house until Christmas morning - and I do appreciate the chair, and it's nice, but I didn't really need a new one, so it was tough to get all excited about it.
(I hope you know what I mean, not trying to sound ungrateful).
I tried to get on Deal or No Deal when it was coming to Canada, but Howie didn't pick me, dang him...heheh. I'd like to go on that show or something similar and win a couple of hundred thousand, that's all I'd need to buy myself a brand new or newer modular home, a new vehicle, and some little business to run that would support me.

I never win anything, because I don't enter, but when I was 5, I won a life-sized walking doll. I was raised in a lower-than-poverty level home until I was 10 - Dad was an alcoholic. We didn't have toys, and I remember seeing that doll in the window at the store, and wanting it so badly. I remember my Aunt telling me it was a prize in a contest.

I don't know how I got entered to win that doll, but somehow I did, and I still can remember asking, when I said my prayers, if I could be the one that won it. I was thrilled that my name was drawn out of all the entries - yes, miracles DO happen!

Just today I won $18,000,000.in a Canadian lottery! But,silly me,decided not to accept it.I'll probably regret THAT for the rest of my life!LOL
I have won a few things over the years but don't contribute it to my luck,just happened to be the one with the winning ticket,number or whatever.I won $30. the other day on a scratch off!

I used to be really lucky at winning lottery prizes. I won $1000 on the very first Canadian Olympic lottery in 1976 and it was a Christmas gift from my brother and his wife. I then used to win a little bit here and there on the Provincial tickets - enough over time that I used that money to go on 2 cruises within months apart. They don't sell Provincial lottery tickets anymore. Now, I rarely buy lottery tickets but when I do I always seem to win free tickets or a couple of dollars.

I'm lucky at finding change on the street and even if it is a penny I will pick it up. I usually save up the found money in a cup for a year and then donate it to charity - the most change I found in a year was $13 and that was from doing a lot of walking. LOL

I am lucky whenever I go to the Windsor Casino which is usually once or twice a year for birthdays. I can bet $20 and walk out with $150 very easily. I know when to quit and walk away. LOL

I often win small raffles or door prizes. One time at a Jack and Jill I attended I bought 2 strips of tickets for $5 and I walked out with a huge all weather flashlight/lantern and a large Rigid Shopvac. I think that was the biggest prize I have ever won.

I'm lucky that I have the best friends that a person can hope for. Truly Blessed.

Yep, my friend Kathy always says I am the luckiest person she knows. (Kathy. who won a brand new van which she sold and put the money on a down payment on her house - first and only time she won anything)

I'm truly lucky/Blessed for all the good things and kindnesses that have happened to me and for me in my lifetime.
