Excruciating ovulation

i'm so glad to know that i'm not the only one experiencing this kind of pain. I have been suffering for nearly 12 years now and i wonder if there is any relief in sight. I would like to know if anyone of you experience pelvic pain after using the bathroom and or exercising? I also would like to know if anyone knows if pregnancy cures or helps the pain? I have had numerous procedures done and no doctor seems to find anything worng with me other than several small fibroids....

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry to be posting this here but I am really glad to find people who are going through the same thing. I am 33, no kids, and have had excrutiating pain mid cycle pain for the past 5-6 months. I've always had pain and discomfort with ovulation and even ended up in the ER at 21 with what they suspected to be an ovarian cyst. Nothing like what I'm feeling now.

I had a clear pap and an insignificant pelvic exam about a year ago but haven't seen my family doc since. The pain seems to last about 2 weeks and makes me wish for the period to get relief. Fullness, sharp pain on the right side, and a constant dull ache going to the flank area hound me the whole day.

I am too scared to see the doctor. I keep thinking I have ovarian cancer. After seeing 2 relatives die of cancer fairly young, I just can't do it.

Nora---SEE A DOCTOR. It probably is not something serious but not seeing a doctor won't make it so. Often if it is something serious, catching it early is the saving grace---not waiting!!!!! GO!

Vera, Vera, Vera! I can give you a book of my saga with uterine fibroids. I had a myomectomy in '94 because they were all on top of my uterus, then had a hysterectomy in 2000 because they came back with a vengeance inside my uterus. Before I had the hysterectomy, I had horrible periods and PMS. Th period that took me to the doctor for the subsequent hysterectomy lasted from a week before Thanksgiving until the second week of February (and most of it heavy and clotting...holy anemia, Batman!) My cousins on my father side who are all around my age all had fibroids, and my sister had one also (she was pregnant at the time, and my neice, strong-willed even then) depleted the fibroid of its blood supply so it went away. I had investigated several options before surgery (Lupron, which looked too scary, hormones-- which I don't think helped me at all...made the periods better, but the fibroids worse). There was a procedure that actually inserts some laser currents into the blood vessels in the fibroids to cut off the blood supply. I did not have this as I had too many and the procedure was still new then. But you may want to look into that. Keep us posted, or me, at least...if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I had an ablation about 6 years ago. I had previously had surgery to remove a couple of fibroids and that helped considerably, but a year later I was still having bleeding issues and I had the ablation. (my doctor had suggested it at the time of the fibroid removal, but I didn't want to do them both at the same time). My periods didn't stop, but I discovered Light tampons, and only needed about 5 of them a month. I haven't heard of women having hormonal problems after ablation. I certainly didn't have any problems with my procedure, which was done with the balloon method. I had cramping for less than 12 hours, then felt fine. You do need to use birth control, because you can conceive, but there is no where for the embryo to implant without the lining, so a pregnancy could be dangerous. I think that it's important to know why you are having bleeding problems. For example,if you have fibroids like I did, an ablation isn't going to remove the underlying problem.

Hi ladygirl, I really think your doc is right. Everything goes haywire during this time, and you just have to ride it out. I spent last Christmas day in the ER, because of ovulation pain. I'd had it in the same spot for about 6 weeks.......waiting for it to stop. Then on Christmas eve it got really bad, and so I went into the ER on Christmas day. The CT scan showed a small cyst. The ER doc said "That's not a big enough cyst to cause all that pain......but nothing else shows up". Well he's wrong.....a tiny ovary cyst CAN cause alot of pain. So take some tylenol/Ibuprofen, and just hang in there. I've also noticed that when I have poop in my intestines in the area of the ovary that has a cyst....it hurts even more. So I think the whole area gets a bit inflammed in there. And from now on, don't except any of your normal timing to occur. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if you had ovary pain during a period! Hang in there landygirl.........I think everything, unfortunately, is going as planned!

I've suffered from hormonal headaches for 17 years. Sure wish "modern" science was more helpful, I've found out most of what helps by reading on my own. I think each person's case is different, so it helps to try different ideas. Also, stick with a treatment for a couple of months at least, some take longer to work than others. For me, these are the helpful hints. #1 - This is KEY. Take whatever pain killers you use at the very first sign that a headache is coming on. Take a moderate amount. DO NOT wait until the headache is bad before you take any pain killers. This strategy will avoid you having to take huge doses of painkillers that won't work when the headache has gotten to the problem stage. Then you will get on a roller coaster of painkillers and you will always have a low grade headache. This is called "rebound" headaches. Use over the counter painkillers to nip headaches in the bud, not tame a roaring one. Try to avoid getting the roaring ones. #2 - Eat small meals regularly to keep blood sugar level. Never eat sweets or refined carbohydrates alone, always have carbs with protein #3 - Watch your trigger foods. For me it is red wine. I can have one glass but not two. #4 - Watch your salt intake. Low salt is very important. #5 - Caffeine boosts the effectiveness of painkillers. It also upsets your stomach and makes you jittery. A little is good, a lot is bad. #6 - Having regular routines helps. Especially regular sleep hours. #7 - Thyroid can play a role, especially if you're having trouble sleeping. If you're tired all the time and having sleep irregularities, have your thyroid level checked. It doesn't give me headaches, but it made fighting them harder for me until I was diagnosed. #8 - My personal theory is that prostglandins contribute to headaches. If you are having bad menstural cramps, try and get those under control and your headaches may not be as bad. Try herbal teas for cramps before your period, and with phytoestrogens when it starts to taper off. #9 - I suppose exercise would be a real help, but that's a hard one for me. #10 - Try some of the new headache drugs. Imitrex pills were just sweet tarts to me, but the nasal spray works fairly well to take the edge off the worst ones. It's pricey though, so I try 1-9 first. If you can't afford Imitrex, try Vanquish, or for something cheap, take asprin 250 mg and acetomyaphin 250 mg with some coffee or coke. Don't start with 500 mg., this is for EMERGENCIES only. The best thing to do is start with a half dose at the first sign of a headache, and if that doesn't nip it in the bud quickly, then add the extra pill. I have both regular strenght and extra strength versions of asprin and acetomyaphen, (sorry, I have no idea how to spell the generic tylenol drug) so I can adjust my doses so I don't take more than I need to. If you're allergic to asprin or acetomyaphen, then just take one or the other. If they don't work for you, try a non-steroidal pain killer like advil or motrin. Watch how much of these things you take, because they are bad for your tummy and bad for your kidneys, and probably bad for a whole lot of other things. A little is good, a lot is bad. #11 - At the first sign of a roaring migrane coming on, arrange your schedule to get the quiet and rest you need. Don't try to be a hero or superwoman. You will only prolong your agony. Abort all non-essential missions, take a time out, and then pick up things with gusto once the headache passes. Remind yourself - IT WILL PASS. YOU WILL GET BACK TO NORMAL EVENTUALLY. NOBODY IS PERFECT EXCEPT GOD.

I have the same pains. Almost constant - dull ache I would rate a 2 or 3 and when I am ovulating or on the first few days of my period some serious pain. Sharp stabbing pains like a razor blade on my inside. Comes and goes so unpredictably it is scary.

I had a colonoscopy, ultrasounds, CT scan, blood tests and they have come to the conclusion through the process of elimination only that it is endomitrosis. I wish it hadn't taken them so long. I have been suffering in the meentime.

I was referred finally to a gynocologist who recomended trying at this time to quite my female parts with birth control. I just started 5 days ago and I can't say they are working yet. Today is terrible!

I haven't given them enough time. Gynocologist wants me to give it 3 months then if there is no improvement they will scope and biopsy to test for endomitrosis and most likely take out my left ovary that is my problem. Good luck. Don't be scared to go to the doctor but if you are of don't have insurance. Try birth control like me. It can't hurt you unless you are a smoker. Doctors don't recomend it if you are a smoker and they do have some side effects. I had to take them at night because if I took them in the morning I felt sick and had a wicked head ache.

Good luck. I am still suffering and will be watching for your update. I will let you know if I have any improvement or the ever scope to be sure like I am now that it is my ovary. They have checked everything else possible on the lower left side of my body it could be and it all checked out well.

I am 47, and have many of the symptoms described by the prior posters. Severe ovulation pain, history of endometriosis,severe menstrual cramps. Now I'm spotting lightly for about 21-25 days in my 28 day cycle! I'm at the point where I am seriously considering a hysterectomy, they would take my ovaries because of the pain from the cysts on my ovaries (had ultrasound to confirm).One option was to take BC for the ovulation pain, but it wouldn't do anything for the bleeding or the endometriosis pain. I'm OK with having the surgery, but I'm worried about losing the estrogen that the ovaries produce. I don't know if I am just trading one problem for others. Anybody out there with the same symptoms that had a successful outcome.

Hello all.

A lot of my friends are trying to get pregnant at the moment and can't figure out when they are ovulating. I am the exact opposite! I

I started getting terrible ovulation pain just over a year ago, at first I didn't know what it was, all I knew was that it was hard to sit down and get up, as was laughing, coughing, sneezing, walking.....I have no children and started my periods quite late about 16.

I have read that this pain is quite normal, mittelschmerz, however after reading this website I am starting to think I need to see a OBY/GYN as it is starting to impact on my life. I feel like my body is taking on a life of itÂs own!

My partner and I are trying to get pregnant at the moment, we have only been trying for 4 months though, I thought I ovulated approx 3-4 days ago on the left side, I even had the swollen lymph node on the left which as far as I've read indicates that is the side from which you are ovulating, however now it feels like I am ovulating from the right hand side and the pain is excruciating...I was stuck lying flat for most of last night.

Although my partner is sympathetic, as this is not a common thing I think my partner thinks I'm exaggerating.

Hello all,

I was woken from a deep sleep with excruciating pain in my lower abdomen. The pain was so severe I fainted. All I remember was I was putting my head into my hands and the next thing I was looking at the bathroom floor tiles. The actual fall caused me bruising to my left side of my face, including a black eye and my neck was painful for about 1 week. I was sent off for a CT scan for my head and an ultra sound for my ovaries. The pain is worse than child birth, in my opinion. The doctors solution is to go on the pill, get an implant or the Depo Provera injection. I'm 48 and don't really want to go on the pill and I know the depo provera makes me put on weight. I don't know much about the implant, but I told my doctor I'm willing to try almost anything.
