Feverfew is not the be all and end all. In fact for many people (like myself) it will make it worse and send you to the hospital. As someone else mentioned if you migraines can be relieved normally by heat then give feverfew a try if you use cold DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE FEVERFEW!! if you are not sure try using a ice pack or heating pad first. For those of us that can't take feverfew here are a few other herbs that may help: Ginger as a tea, candy etc. (I am currently testing this out) vitamin B2 (riboflavin) not only does this vitamin help with nausea it helps with sensitivity to light. Lavender, drop real lavender oil on a bandana and wrap around your forehead, and/ or massage into your temples. This also helps with headaches from crying and other pressures. I am not a doctor, these are things that have worked for me and may not work for you, please do your research and talk to a professional.

Has she tried massage? I don't mean a casual feel-good type of massage, but with someone who is really well trained - often these people work with doctors & chiropractors. I've been a painting contractor for 15 years, and even though I have employees do much of the dirty work :o) I still do enough to get all sorts of pains, knotted muscles and neurological weirdness. Things that can give me significant headaches, arm & hand numbness and quite a bit of pain in my back, neck and shoulders. I also have a ruptured disc in my lower back. Over the years, the ONLY thing that gives almost complete and immediate relief of all symptoms is a very good massage. Really excellent practioners can be hard to find, but well worth it IMHO. Worst case scenario - it won't cure anything, but it feels really, really good! An hour is generally $50-$100, depending where you are.

I woke up one morning feeling like my whole room was spinning. Putting a foot down on the floor like when you had to much to drink did not help. I did manage to get to the bathroom, but then had a bad episode, and found myself on the floor. I wasn't sure, which way was up. I crawled back to bed. All this, shortly after we had moved. I didn't have a Dr. yet. I didn't know, what was wrong with me. I kept laying down, some in front of the TV. Almost all my laying down was on my right side. Later I realized, my vertigo was brought on by laying on my right side. I sleep exclusively on my left side now. I don't toss or turn anymore. I used to wake up all queasy and sick to my stomach. When we got hold of a Dr. to see me right away, he said, I had Vertigo. He gave me a prescription for something, sorry I don't remember what, but I never filled it. He also suggested the exercises in the link up above, and said, the pills had a lot of side effects, and didn't work for everyone. When I got back home I tried to do the exercises, but got so violently sick when I first laid on my left side, that I had to sit up and fight throwing up. It took me two hours to do a whole set of the exercises that day. Since then, I am mostly fine, but have episodes when I have to do two or more sets of exercises daily. Ceiling fans, whipping your foot while sitting with crossed over legs, watching a train go by are just some of the things that can set me off. Oh, and sleeping in the same bed as Jerry. :) Really, HONEST! Jerry has restless leg syndrome and sleep apnea, and shakes the be almost all night long. Since we went to separate beds (but still in the same room) I haven't had very many episodes. All my troubles began in July 2001. Since then I have ridden my bicycle across the United States, from coast to coast, as well as several other long distance rides. No problems! You can lead a "normal" life even if you have Vertigo problems. Patti, try it again. It might work for you too. Moni

I firmly believe that people who suffer chronically and don't help themselves, do it because on a psychological level they benefit from it. It's an excuse for them not to achieve, it avoids responsibility, or it reinforces their sense that they don't deserve better...it's a way of getting attention, or hanging on to those you fear you might otherwise lose. There are a myriad of reasons why. Many of those reasons can occur at an unconscious level. Only by doing the work of probing and understanding our past and our thinking can we understand and unwind the path that lead us to where we are today. We had an aunt who was always miserable. All she ever did was complain. My Mom used to ask me why if she is so unhappy doesn't she do something to fix it...and I would respond because Auntie is never so happy as she is when she's unhappy. She never thought she'd get attention if she was happy, but by being miserable, she garnered attention and support. She fulfilled the role that she believed was hers. I heard this talk on meditation by a chiropractor/yoga instructor/etc. He told the story of one patient who had a chronic shoulder problem. She been to doctors and chiropractors and nothing seemed to help. So he asked her to tell him her story. Turns out that she sat next to her father at the dinner table who was an angry man and who would often reach out and strike her where she sat. To protect herself, she got in the habit of hunching that shoulder. Only by telling him, did she make the connection between what was necessary back then, what is no longer necessary now and how to solve the problem....by understanding and then letting go of the past.
