First, congrats on building your new house! Very exciting. My MW drawer isn't in our island so no picture, but in addition to the electrical question I'm wondering: It looks in your picture like the island counter has an overhang of several inches on all 4 sides (can't tell for sure) and a corbel in the center of each side. Where were you planning on placing the MW? Under the corbel? That seems awfully low. Or were you thinking of having 2 corbels on either side of the MW space? That would make sense to me so it could be higher, but you wouldn't want much overhang above it. So my preference would be sink side, centered between 2 corbels, with only a standard counter overhang. For an under-counter MW, I really like having a drawer, so you can place and retrieve items from above. (That's personal preference though.) natevalsmom - beautiful kitchen! Love your colors, lights, valances, and especially that island counter.

Thanks for posting the pics. lnersesian - your kitchen is beautiful in chestnut. This helps a lot in making my decision. lauramn - thanks for the pics. No one by me had autumn blush and that's suppose to be one of Kraftmaid's most popular color. I went in on Friday ready to pic chestnut only to walk out still undecided. I ordered a sample door in chestnut to make sure I like it both in the sunlight and at night. If I don't it will be autumn blush. Holding up my own construction - going on 4 wks now. I have the granite, style, molding picked just waiting on color. I also have more lighting being installed in ceiling and under cabinet lighting. My KD said just place the order and I still have 1 week to change the color. This way they can at least measure my kitchen. This is so tough!

Scribe molding is widely used by installers of stock and semi custom cabinetry. Sadly, it's also invaded custom cabinetry, mainly because the skill level of the installers of custom cabinetry isn't what is used to be and the new guys coming along don't know what "scribing" is in a cabinet install situation. They mainly focus on a quick intall so they can move on to the next client. That means no scribing. Also, "custom" cabinet manufacuring isn't what it used to be either, with cabinet makers ordering doors and carcasses from wholesale manufacturers and then calling themselves "custom" rather than building in shop to the 1/32" exactness that you would expect from the word "custom". It all comes down to whether or not the cabinets were actually a true custom build and the skill set of someone who installs those custom cabinets. If you have high quality craftsmen on both sides, then you should not have any scribe molding. Scribe moding isn't a "hack" if done right in a stock or semi custom situation. It's a time saver that is a great cosmetic coverup in some situations, not all.

May I just reiterate how grateful I am for the input? cpartist, I have attached a picture of the tile on the fireplace (were you asking me about the tile or the wall color?). I had purchases the 12x12 samples from Samplize and loved the look of Revere Pewter in there on then walls, but did not like it in the kitchen. I thought Edgecomb gray looked nice in the kitchen, and I put that sample next to the tile in various locations, and thought it looked nice. So I had planned on using White Dove for the cabinets, as I thought it looked perfect in the space and worked with both the countertop and the backsplash. But then I hired a color consultant that came recommended from several friends. I was unimpressed with her. She thought that White Dove would not work because she thought it would bother me that my trim on the windows and on the pantry door did not match the cabinet color and she recommended Chantilly Lace. In my opinion, Chantilly Lace looks too white. I have a sample of White Dove, and I think it looks well with both the backsplash and the counter. I could hire another color consultant, but I was completely turned off by the earlier experience. Beth has me wanting to check out other whites, such as Simply White and Oxford White. I had found a Design Dilemma thread where the question was "Simply White or White Dove," and the majority (overwhelming majority) said they liked Simply White more than White Dove. Do you have an opinion on that? I am totally open to trying colors other than White Dove, but, again, I thought it worked until the color consultant told me she thought it would bother me. I do not want to repaint all my trim. Do you think my cabinets can be a little off white and have it look okay with the trim around the windows and the pantry door? Should I consider painting my pantry door (versus the trim)?
