How bad side effects(ESTRATEST)

My wife is on estratest after hysterectomy.I wander how bad are the side effects from this medication.Thank you.

Hi Buc1980........I'm not familiar with estratest, but I have to warn you that some women have major problems right after a hysterectomy (even months). So don't assume, if she's feeling badly, that it's side-effects from the HRT. I had a friend who was actually bed-ridden for about 3 months after a hysterectomym from all new symptoms. She felt like she was going to die.....She blamed alot of her strange feelings and sensations on her new estrogen patch, and refused to wear it. In retrospect, it probably would have helped her feel better, and all the really bad things she was experiencing, was the major change she was going through, due to the hysterectomy. I hope I haven't assumed too much here. Good luck to your wife! Suddenly having your own natural hormones removed, can be a rought road!

I have been using Estratest HS just one day a week (using estradiol the other days)and have no problems with that schedule. When I used it twice a week (estradiol the other days) I would get dark hair on the inside of my thighs, but didn't have any trouble with facial hair or deepening voice or any of the things that are sometimes associated with too much testosterone. I have heard that some women take Estratest every day with no adverse effects, so it seems to be an individual thing, much like most HRT options.

Thanks. I had considered a motion-activated sprinkler last year, but you can't use them in the Fall or early Spring because of the chance of frost. For example, the Scarecrow maker's web site at http://www.contech-inc.com/products/scarecrow/ says: "To prevent damage from freezing water, take the ScareCrow inside and remove the battery before the first winter frost. Failure to do so may cause some parts to break as ice expands inside." We had our first frost to speak of this morning (Oct 8) at about 3 AM. My other concern with the Scarecrow is its web site says that large animals can be detected at 30 feet away but "some small animals" may not be seen at even 20 feet away. Unfortunately, Contech, the maker, doesn't say which small animals are too small to be seen at even the closer range, but rabbits are probably in that category. Hares and rabbits are smaller than deer, cats, and racoons, which are the animals some YouTube videos showed being repelled by the Scarecrow. I didn't see one video showing the Scarecrow scaring off rabbits. The web site has a chart showing that small animals need to get within 10 feet, which means for me buying 3 or 4 Scarecrows to protect my patch of bluegrass. So that would be $300 or $400 for something that can't be used after October 8 or during the early Spring, both times of frost around here. Also my neighbor's dogs on the other side of our shared fence might take offense if they get hit by water all the time. But it was interesting reading about the Scarecrow. Thanks. It seems to be better than the motion-activated sprinkler I read about last year.

Taking yourself off Paxil without side effects...???

Seven years ago I took an Oxycut wieght loss pill. It set off a panic attack that lasted from February to June. And I mean it was a full fledged attack, racing heart, crying, etc. for five solid motnhs, I lost 30lbs, I could bearly function. I couldn't leave the house and breath at the same time. The paxil got it under control. Paxil was a very good choice at the time. I had tried Buspar with worse effects,the paxil made me feel normal again. Now after seven years, my husband and son comment on how much my personality has changed,I have gained back the weight I lost plus another 40lbs. I have sexual dysfunction and still have a few break through anxiety attacks. I decided to wean off with out telling my doctor. I did it pretty well, as you can see in the above post. Today is day 8. What I didn't realize is that no one was talking about how long it takes to get off. I weaned the way I was supposed to. The withdrawls didn't come until a few days being completely off. I have now found some obscure websites that say it takes 10-25 days/ 2-6 weeks to get rid of all of the withdrawls. Every day gets better,so I don't think I'll be on the longer side, but boy does this suck. The electrical surges, food aversions, stomach problems,dizziness, exhaustion, etc. The side effects are managable. I have not taken anything to ease them. I am making it to work, although I am so exhausted I can't wait to get home. My husband, son and co-workers have been wonderfully supportive. My anxiety has been fine. I can't believe that with today's technology, they have not found medications that do what they are supposed to with out this very addictive quality. I have heard that Paxil is non addictive. I have not read the actual definition of addictive,but if I need to wean off for this amount of time and have withdrawls as long and as intense as I do, I would call it addictive. I have had a decent amount of medical experience, so I think I weanned off well. If you are planing on coming off, talk to your doctor and do it under thier care. Unless something horrible happens, I plan never to go back on this med. If I need more anxiety help, which I probably will (I already do counseling, meditation and healthy eating), I will ask my doctor for a short lived med. Good luck everyone. It is too bad more people do not look at this post, or have a good active blog for Paxil and other meds. The support of smart people who have been through what you have been is priceless. I've been on Prednisone since May when I was hospitalized for a first-time asthmatic-bronchial attack. When I came home I was on 60 ml a day, & we now have it down to 5 ml a day. I'm hoping that will get to every other day soon. During this time the side effects have varied (& sometimes almost driven me nuts)- I usually have a few effects going at the same time. They include weight gain, facial puffiness (though not the "moon" face), lots of muscle aches, especially in my hips, lots of muscle cramps in my feet, legs & forearms, intolerance to heat, excessive sweating, heat flashes, hair thinning, crankiness, gastroesphogeal reflux, easy bruising, thinning skin, insomnia, odd dreams, & for a while, high blood sugar. While this medicine is needed, it's as bad as some chemotheraphy: the treatment is as bad or worse than the disease. Sigh.

One side of roof in bad condition, other side perfect

Also in Ontario here. I'm not a roofer, nor a roof expert, but my husband has done some repairs here and there on our roof, and we've both inspected it over the years. Your picture above is a bit dark to see. But are you are saying that the part of the roof which is darker is the part just underneath the eavestrough on the upper roof on the 2nd floor ? If so, one thing to do is to make sure you keep the gutter clean and unclogged above that spot - because if there is constant water overflowing from the 2nd floor onto the garage roof right at that particular spot, you will find a lot of deterioration on the shingles where the majority of the water hits. We have small sections of our roof which deteriorates much faster than other areas specifically because water pours from the high roof to the lower roof. Watch during a heavy rainstorm to see if the water is properly going down the downspout from the 2nd floor roof to the roof over the garage, or if it is pouring over the edge. If pouring over the edge, you'll see faster deterioration in your roof shingles. I make a point to go out during rainstorms if I can to watch for clogging. If you've ever cleaned gutters, you'll find in addition to leaves and such, you'll find little shingle particles. So as the shingles deteriorate, little bits of them come off and collect in the gutters. You might see lots of little bits of shingle directly in the gutter above the garage door and just below the darker area. This can help to affect the colour of the shingles. There may be a different reason for your darker shingles, but I suggest this only because it looks like the darker area is directly below the upper roof. Sometimes you can look around the neighbourhood and see other people where the roof is failing in specific areas just because that part of the roof is being bombarded with too much water.

i was on eatratest for about 9 months and the only side effect I noticed was a little hair on my upper lip, which nair took care of. The main thing is for her to take them.

I had a hysterectomy in June, 2001. The feeling of surviving major surgery and the immediate menopause as opposed to gradually going through it is a lot to handle. There was anger, confusion, loss, uncertainty for about 5 months. I am taking Estratest (plant based HRT) and taking multivitamins and I also cut out the "white food". I feel almost "normal" again. I think talking with others who are going through this is most helpful. Having an understanding and supportive partner means so much. My husband offered lots of hugs, a shoulder to lean on and an ear to bend, even though neither of us knew how this would all turn out.

Hi All!,
I have been on Estratest for 15 years. I started taking it right after a complete hysterectomy. I was 48 at the time and I had NO problems what so ever. About 6 months ago I decided to go on half strength and have begun to have hot flashes. Also my libido has been reduced. This would not normally be a problem but I'm a newly wed as of December! My question is should I go back on full strength? The hot flashes are very annoying, so is the lack of libido.
