1/4 sawn oak floor with 1/4 sawn oak base cabinets?

Hello all...

Well, the flooring guy just 'condemned' our 85 year old end grain fir floors (they have had one too many refinishes and will not likely stand up to the rigors of a kitchen) so they are likely to be replaced.

The living room has 1/4 sawn white oak and it fits with the west coast (Vancouver) 1924 mock tudor bungalow style of the house. I was planning to do 1/4 sawn oak lower cabinets with white uppers to keep it bright but now I worry that I might overdose on 1/4 sawn oak...

Please help me with suggestions as to how I might mitigate the overdose while keeping with the oak floors and cabinets.

Is lighter on cabs or floor better, different stain/luster/finishes...that sort of thing.

Thank you,

Tom
