Cultured Marble Bath Counter top Question
Comments (12)Cultured marble is sort of like faux pearls or diamondique.... the name is a bit misleading! It is a blend of resin and marble dust which can be tinted and so varies widely in quality and style. We used it in our house when it was originally built and are now remodeling. The white on our half bath vanity and hall bath still looks okay as far as style. Just a plain white with some minor gray swirling and we'll be keeping it as we work our way through the house remodeling. But our master bath counertop and tub surround is now in the dumpster as it was sort of a taupe color with lots of swirling and was just obviously "fake"....See MoreAnyone have a counter top material backsplash then subway on top?
Comments (12)It may be that the person installing the counters is worried about a good tight fit against all the walls where counters will run. If your walls are not flat and straight, the installers can cover a pretty good sized gap with that thick strip of countertop material laid a few inches up the wall ( the older style installations). But with good modern templating, you should expect a good fit even if your walls are a little bit off, then the tile can come right down to the counter and still meet with a small caulk joint at the change of plane. Perhaps you can ask them if they're worried about uneven walls, or you can take a yardstick to them yourself to see how they look. If it were my kitchen I'd certainly want the newer style installation....See MoreAnyone have "leathered Quartz" counter tops?
Comments (22)Thanks everyone. I had heard of leathered granite and quartzite, but not of Quartz. Too good to be true. I wanted to have Quartz in the bathrooms, and have granite in the kitchen. I do not want Quartzite for reasons that I cannot remember. LOL I read up about the difference in the 3 a few weeks ago and came to my conclusion about surfaces. I don't think I would like a leathered surface, either. I like a shiny finish with no bumps. Also, I have never noticed fingerprints on my shiny granite counter tops. I also think the pattern is Fantasy Brown. My cousin has that in a shiny granite....See MoreAnyone have pics of old marble kitchen countertops, stains and all?
Comments (8)I've got one long run of marble countertop in my kitchen and a marble vanity top in my bathroom--both honed. There may be minor etching, but if so I don't even notice it. I think it all really boils down to how laid back you are vs how compulsive you are and if you want a showcase kitchen or a truly used kitchen. About a month ago I was concerned about a yellowed ring from a soap dispenser on my bathroom top. I tried cleaning it but it was still visible (to me). Within a couple days it had disappeared. Perhaps some of these things just balance out after time. FWIW a few years ago we visited Ostia Antica which is about 30 miles outside of Rome and used to be the seaport for the city. One of the ruins there is a 2000 year old tavern kitchen. Guess what the counters were? They are still around with a bit of patina....See Morekaismom
