Painted Glass Walls/Back Splash
Comments (17)I am embarking down this road as I patiently await my countertops. I am wondering if anyone who has done this can tell us what they spent, and whether it still feels like an easy-to-clean surface? I live in Utah, called four glass places, and two of them install glass backsplashes (two didn't answer their phone or return my call). The one who would give me an estimate said $35/square foot, and this includes sandblasting the back and painting with a specialty paint (like an automotive paint). Install would be another $85/hour. The glass type was not specified, though I could certainly call and ask.. I am looking at a 10-foot x 1.5 foot backsplash, meaning maybe $600 installed. I would love to hear about other people's experiences....See MoreTo backsplash or not to backsplash...that is the question
Comments (23)cigi, in our last house the previous owner installed tumbled marble in a mauvish tone which IMO looked awful with the St Cecilia granite. Even though the tile was expensive, I tore them off and left the 4" granite backsplash, patched and painted the rest of the wall. The sink was the only working area as the cooktop was on the island. No problem with water as I used BM Aura, but Pittsburgh Paint's Manor Hall Timeless is just as good with a more flat look and lifetime warranty. I'm pondering the issue for my current redo. In various houses I've had paint, wallpaper, white tile with abalone inserts, plain white tile. Right now I'm weighing white tile with a beautiful insert, just paint with no granite backsplash since this area has only a counter but no cooking/wet functions, paint with granite backsplash, or a simple glass tile backsplash with listello over it a la Chinchette. I'm attaching a photo from Chinchette's beautiful kitchen (hope she doesn't mind seeing hers cited as a great example) which shows the last option. In any event, I echo others' advice to not worry about that decision immediately unless you absolutely love a certain look. Just use good paint. Comments (5)People who choose sheet glass for their backsplash generally want its elegant simplicity and cleaning advantages throughout the kitchen, not just in one spot. I've seen glass combined with the classic 4" counter material bs, but not with tile. Those who opt for sheet stainless behind the range combined with tile elsewhere build up the "behind the range" area with plywood of appropriate thickness to allow the surfaces to appear flush. I'm sure you can do the same for glass. If you're really lazy make sure to choose a matte finish on your glass....See MoreKitchen backsplash
Comments (44)Thank you so much! I just want to make sure i stay on the right track with my choices :) I'm attaching a picture of a sample tile for feedback. It's a 12"x12" sheet of smaller 2"x4" tiles I think made of marble? Might be too many grout lines, but curious what ppl think?...See Moreromy718
