The sink is an old double bowl farmhouse sink. The faucets will be wall mounted on the 8" backsplash. The counter space on either side are the same height. The 1st and 3rd window are full sized and the middle window is shorter on the bottom to allow for the 8" backsplash. Initially, my designer wanted to leave that as wall but I really want as much light as possible and can't see standing at the sink and seeing only wall or cabinet so I pushed for the shorter window. On the outside I will build a flowerbox to mask the different length of window. It will look something like the link below (same sink, same faucet, maple counter), only less expensive ;) I can't comment on the structural questions. It isn't my forte. But, the three windows are replacing an old picture window that leaks like a sieve so there will actually be more support in the new frames than is currently there now. Angie, thanks for the comment on bulbs. I will get a selection of different kinds to try them out. To confirm, as long as I stay below the full wattage (40W) I will be safe. The output will vary by type of bulb. Do I have that right? I'm not much help (sorry), but I have the same question! How high are your ceilings? How tall are you and your family members? I think these both factor into the answer. One site I found I believe said 30-40" off the countertops, but that might be for an island or table light, because 30" seems low (only 5' 6" from the floor if your base cabinets are 36"). I also seem to recall reading 6 feet off the floor was a good measure, but again, not if you are 6'4". You may just want to figure on a few inches higher than the tallest person in your house? Not to hijack, but I have 9'9" ceilings, and to complicate matters, a faucet that will reach up 32" from the counters, as well as a pendant I want to hang. So if I hang my pendant so the bottom is 6' from the floor, I have only 4" between the top of the faucet and the pendant, plus I would have to have 44" of cord for it to hang that low anyway (shade is 5" tall)! So obviously mine will have to hang at more like 7 feet, or maybe even higher to look proportional. I have seen it recommended here to hang a balloon or cardboard cutout on a string and live with it a day or two to see what height you like best. Good luck!

Thanks---I think we are using 6" wide open shades with these, though they also make an 8" wide shade that's similar so that's an option too. I looked at it again this morning and think I would need to have the electrician move it---they're not planning to come back till we're ready them to put the outlets and switches on for final inspection, so I'm thinking I should just let this one go, and if it really becomes an issue once we're using the kitchen, worry about it then....moral of the story: post these questions before the work rather than after!! (You'd think with the number of questions I've already posed here that there wouldn't be much left to ask... ;)

how much space between the pendants. Ann, in both comments I mentioned a guide up in my first comment. I guess you keep missing it? here it is again,,,with 3 others. these should give you the needed spacing to choose pendants. while you can play around w/the distance between them, the height should be right at 30" or so, with no more than 36" from the countertop. Since you're going smaller, you don't have to do the 30" between. smaller sized pendants can be a tad bit closer 7" is a mini pendant and far too small to use over your island. shoot for 10-14"
