There starting to close the Sears Essential stores in our area. These are the K-mart stores Sears took over.

Do you find that a big loss? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

To me, Sears Essentials was a huge dissappointment. They aren't cheap at all, but the quality of stuff they sell isn't that much better than K-Mart was. There are several SE in my area, and the parking lots--since they opened--are always empty. I've wondered how they stayed in business this long, to be honest. After all, if you want to buy Sears brand items--tools, appliances, etc--you can always go to a regular Sears store, so the SE's seemed a bit superfluous, IMO.

Not really. K-Mart bought Sears. Your Sears store is a K-Mart with a name that once had a good reputation.

You need to remove the drawer from the rails on the cabinet. Most well made cabinets have handles of various types that unlock the drawer from the rails. Once removed you will see a plastic like device that slides up and down the rail in front of the gas piston. You will notice that one or both of the plastic peices are not locked in the forward position. If you do not understand this when the drawer is removed. Remove another drawer that is working and you will see the differrence quickly. The springs must be in the forward postion to pull the drawer shut while the gas piston slows it down. If the problem persists the rail that slides with the drawer does not engage the spring correctly and you need to bend the tab that engages into the spring mechanism.

Agree with Nancy. I don't know that there is a specific spacing called for but as far apart as possible will help. But do keep in mind that variety of both also determines their storage life. Some varieties will store for months with no problems but others are only good for a few weeks regardless of storage methods. Dave

Decrease the downward travel by 1/4 inch or increase the downward force a bit. Both are adjusted by turning a stem or screw on most GDO drive units.

Closing up the cottage: Open or closed shades?

We don't close up our camp for the winter, but when we leave we close the blinds and draw the drapes to keep it warmer. Although it is rare there has been instances of break-ins in camps that are closed up for the winter. Keeping the blinds closed would keep eyes from looking in to see what is worth stealing. Also one or two lamps on a timer wouldn't hurt and wouldn't cost that much in electricity.

The internet is affecting many retail stores. More people are buying books on Amazon than going to book stores. Netfix is taking over video rentals. I shop a lot online, it's cheaper and easier than going to a store. Most stores can't compete with internet prices.
