Sears Detergent has not been Discontinued

I finally got sick of Sears giving us all the run around about their detergents. Needless to say, I sent a very stern email to them demanding a straight forward answer to the question, "Has Sears Laundry detergent been discontinued?" Here is the response copy and pasted below. Please pardon that I have removed my name.

Dear Ms. XXXXX,

Thank you for shopping at Sears.com! We appreciate your interest in

Sears laundry detergent. We do not offer this product online, however

many Sears stores either have or can order this laundry detergent for

you. It has not been discontinued, but may be available in limited

markets.

Please contact your local Sears retailer and inquire about purchasing

Sears laundry detergent. We hope this information has been helpful in

finding your merchandise. Thank you for choosing Sears this holiday

season!

Well, there ya have it folks. It hasn't been discontinued, just removed from online. But he did write something about having sears order it for you so I hope there are Sears near by all who are interested.

My understanding was that it was being repackaged in a box rather than in the pail. Are you saying the pails are available, and not discontinued?

From what the email said, it is still available just not on the net. I suppose they may be putting it into boxes instead of pails to make it more cost efficient on shipping and materials and to make it more eco friendly. It kinda makes sense. I mean, if you soley buy Sears detergent powder, that is a lot of buckets to accumulate over time. Then again, I was at our local Sears a few weeks ago and they had plenty of buckets of the detergent there and they had had a sale 2 months ago and were sold out of it prior to that visit.

I merely wanted to find out once and for all if it was discontinued or not since so many people were saying it was.

I don't think it has been discontinued. Since I found this site I have read so much about the sears detergent. I had been toying with the idea of trying it. That caused me to go back and forth from their website several times. Finally broke down and got some last week and have been very pleased. Anyway, I noticed that they changed what they had available on their website from time to time. It seems to disappear particularly during sale times. I got the big bucket of the Sears stain fighter on sale at the local sears even though it was not on the web. I think when they run low or run out they take it off the web. Give it a couple of weeks or till the end of the sale and check again and it will probably still be there. I can't see them discontinuing anything that they sell out of so quickly.

Happymom... Was just at my Sears yesterday and noticed that while they do not have the buckets of the Stain Fighting formula (orange lid) anymore, they have them in boxes of 120 scoops. It seems that they re-packaged it. The new boxes are the exact same design as on the buckets WITH the HE symbol on it now. Before the boxes didn't have the symbol. Also boxed now is the formula with the fabric softener. The exact same design from the bucket now on that box too. I was looking around for a salesman, couldn't find anyone, not that I expect to get an answer as to whether it is reformulated or just repackaged. I've got enough detergent to last me for 2 years no no need to buy one. At least it's still being made!!!

I read about the discontinuation in the Automatic Washer.org forum; however, someone else stated that they were just getting rid of old stock and starting a new "design?" or something like that. When I looked at Sears website for my area yesterday, there was a different looking box that did 180 loads, it was orange and green and looked similar to the "Advanced" box but just a little different. This was not there Friday and just appeared yesterday, so I don't know what the true deal is. I'm only stating what I read in the other forum and what others were talking about. I do hope that it is just a change of design and they will keep selling it. ...and don't ya know it's so hard to find out who actually makes it and what's actually in it. Last I read, someone said it was made by DeSoto but I definitely have never found an MSDS for it. I thought all chemical products like detergents had to have an MSDS.

@Mitch, thanks for the info! Yes, I think you *need* to order them to give them another try. Or if you want I would be happy to send you some so you can test them out! Do you still like the German or UK persil powders? I tried the German liquid/gel and the scent was too strong for me (I like very mild scents), so wondering about persil powder, but I think I recall Larsi saying that the german persil has changed in recent years and is no longer so great? @Mama, I recall the Ph of Tide liquid being lower than powder detergents....for a while I used Tide liquid F&C and was pretty happy with how it cleaned. Hmm, laundry has become quite complicated--ph, water temp, water hardness, presence of enzymes, rinses, cycle time, soak, brighter, bleaches, liquid vs. powder... OH MY!
