Oh I love that table top. You did a beautiful job ! How did you strip/refinish it ? Your seating area will look wonderful when you get a cozy chair for it. What kind of rug are you going to use in the area. The tile doesn't really go with the antique look of the table and chairs. I have rush seated chairs too and I love them. Mine were made for me 30 yrs ago and the rush is perfect except on one. I have Oriental rugs and they would be so nice with your table and chairs.

I am not sure about the base of the table being cream....and the bench a different color. It would really depend again on what else you have going on in the room....color of future seating area chair and rug. I love the black to tell the truth with the wood.

trailrunner, my friend also said she likes it black (the table legs). If I could photoshop I could try it out in white before I paint it. I really want to get away from the black but it might be better.

For the table it just had paint on the bare wood. sanded it with orbital sander (took 3 or 4 days) and then applied 4 thin coats of water based polyurethane (sanding in between coats) and waiting a day between each coat. No stain

thanks for your encouragement! I see what you mean about the tile not being french country but it does have going for it .. it is neutral. I hadn't wanted to put a rug under the table because it is just such a PIA to clean the rug. Right now it is soo easy care but you aren't the first one to mention a rug so the space must need it LOL

I like persian rugs in blue and yellow. there are a few I like Or a natural sisal or jute. But now that I think about it with the tile being natural.. a natural color rug on top of it won't be adding much! But then again, it could work.

If the table Legs And the bench were both in white ..
Then I go do this large hutch piece for the other side of the fireplace in the painted yellow?

I gotta have something painted the yellow LOL

plus I am planning to get white painted counter stools for the breakfast bar

You did a great job on the table, and the chairs look wonderful. I'm not sure about the black going with your overall vision. What about a gray-blue for the table legs and the bench? Then, you can paint your hutch your butter yellow.

As far as rugs, what about a braided rug? My parents used to have one in an extremely high traffic area and it wore like iron. And, they're reversible. Something like this in the link below:

I think dee's choice would be a good one. I just don't see the white working....I liked the very first rustic round stool you posted. Not the white legged ones with rush seats...too much rush maybe.

You could have a pretty chintz type upholstered chair and ottoman. Then have the braided rug ,,,,make sure it has the same tone that the tile floor has. Then pick out the yellow for the bench and perhaps the blue for the table legs. Then the yellow or the blue for the hutch. Do you already have the hutch??? pics?

It will really look French Country then. Are you wanting to completely do the room with that theme? If you are then the rustic look of the fireplace still works...at least I think so. I wouldn't do anything to it till I had all the other pieces together and then see what is what.

I am not usually a participant on this kind of thing but I love that table and chairs so much that they would be my focal point for the whole room.

Dee .. the blue table legs with the blue benches could work, originally I had wanted either yellow OR blue. Then I could do the yellow hutch.

I do like braid rugs - a lot - and have looked at them a lot. I am so glad you think the chairs look good with the table.. it's a relief!

Trailrunner .. I don't have the hutch. I would need to get my hands on a truck again to transport the beast. Plus talk my hubby into giving the money for another craigslist mission so soon after the last. in fact he said no more for awhile ha ha

The hutch looks huge. I don't even know the measurements of it. seems like it could stick out further than the fireplace hearth. but it would be in the corner of the room in the back so could work

I love the carvings they are so french country and love the legs on it!
It's ugly but I can see mega potential in it. plus it even looks like it Needs painting so I wouldn't feel bad about painting it.

I think the base would look good in either the distressed black, antique white or a soft butter yellow. I would do the bench in the same color as the chairs though.
