Ceiling fixture to match Cree LR6?

After reading the posts here, we have decided to go with the Cree LR6 for our kitchen. It's a small space (10x12) and we have also decided on white cabs, marble counter/island and likely blue/green backsplash. We are therefore leaning toward the 3500K model.

The dilemma is how to match other lights to the color coming from the Cree's. If we go with undercabs, we'll choose LED there as well. Anyone with suggestions on a ceiling fixture that would not lead to odd light colors?

Where is the ceiling fixture going to be? Also in the kitchen? We have a mix of Cree recessed lights and regular incandescent fixtures and it looks fine. You can tell that it is different, but the cans look like functional kitchen-y lighting to me, whereas the other fixtures are more decorative. Hope that makes sense.

If you're not convinced, you could also try CFL fixtures. I think Rejuvenation sells some. They would probably give off a cooler light than incandescents.

I have the Cree LR6's and an incandescent fixture over the sink and one over the table. I use GE Reveal bulbs in the incandescent fixtures and don't really notice a difference. As bulbs burn out in other rooms of our house, we've been replacing them with the GE Reveals. Although the bulbs themselves look blue, the light it emits looks very "true," paint colors look "true." This is very noticeable when one bulb is a reveal and one next to it is not.

jdougjo, I forgot to mention that CREE CR6 lights will be available for ~50 around the middle of this year. They will be the approximate replacement for the LR6 (with a shorter rated life span). I used environmentalLights neutral white lightbars for under cabinet lighting and am quite pleased with the results. Having said that, I'd strongly advise shopping around online - the same lights can be purchased elsewhere for less today. A brief view StarStrand LED could also be another option. I just finished construction of a new home with a lot of LED lighting. I used the CR6 as my budget light while installing the 'higher-end' LR6 in common areas. In total, I installed about 30 CR6 retrofit in Halo 6" cans and about 15 LR6 in the CREE can with CREE trim. I splurged the extra cost for the LR6 cans and lights in the most important rooms (library, kitchen, etc) thinking I really wanted the best there. Unfortunately, the very poor dimming curve of the LR6 in comparison to the CR6 makes me regret that decision. I can not really tell the difference in light quality between the two when they are on, but as they are turning on and off, the LR6 is much worse. I use a Vantage Controls lighting system and the dimming is terrible with the LR6 - I am looking into ripping them out and replacing with CR6 if you can believe it. In retrospect, I wish I had used the CR series everywhere - to be more specific, I used a lot of CR6's but I think the CR4's look the best. In general, it seems new construction is moving more towards the 4" form factor than the 6" and both CREEs give off the same amount of light (the LED chip appears to be the same in both models). If I were starting again (even though the CR6's are now a total bargain at ~$25 at Home Depot and the CR4's are still $50), I would do the entire house in CR4 edisons with halo 4" cans. They are a nice light that both I and my wife (who is very particular) like, the light is warm (~2800K), energy efficient, and easy to install. For What It's Worth, -Andy

Cree's recommendation to me for dimmers with the 10 LR6's I will have on one switch (and the 3 on a 2nd switch and 2 on a 3rd switch) are the Lutron Skylark SF-10P (single pole) and Lutron Skylark SF-103P (3-way). Not as cosmetically sleek as some of Lutron's other dimmers, but I just want 'em to work w/o issues.

I live in Canada, but the last time I lead a seminar in California, the Title 24 requirement for wattage was only applicable in the kitchen area, where 50% of the total wattage used had to be flourescent or LED. All other ares in the house only required a dimmer or motion sensor. This may have changed, I'm not sure. You didn't mention that type of room you were lighting. Vaulted ceilings usually accept 4" low voltage gimbal trims or 75PAR30 sloped ceiling downlights. Do some more research. LED 's are certainly not the answer to many special applications in the home.
