Will 2 pendants w/60-watt bulbs be enough for a bathroom?

It's not a large bathroom. Thinking of two of these high up in front of the edges of the mirror at a 48"-wide vanity. besides that in the room, there's a toilet, a bathtub alcove that doesn't need a lot of light, and a small strip of floor space.

Do you think bathrooms need at least a 100-watter? (I don't recall whether light is really additive, like whether 2 60-watt bulbs are as good or better than a 100-watt bulb for light.)

Prior there was a 6-strip 'Hollywood light' - the kind with the little makeup bulbs - shrouded by a white translucent thing. That gave off a LOT of light. Most of the time I kept it dimmed.

Be careful, a pendant light is not allowed within a certain distance of a bathtub by the NEC.

Assuming we're talking incandescents, a single 100 watt lamp will produce about as much light as two 60 watt lamps, while using 20 fewer watts.

FWIW, I use two 15 watt compact fluorescents (equivalent to 60 watt) in my small bathroom, and it's plenty. However, my fixtures don't have a dark shade, which your fixture appears to have. (Seems counterproductive, doesn't it?)

Nice sconces! We have 4x40w bulbs, 2 each in two sconces, in our small master ensuite. It's adequate but barely, partly because I find the glass a little too thick and it dims the bulbs quite a bit. I'm waiting for them to die so I can put in slightly brighter LEDs. I would think it WOULD be adequate for a powder room -- guests don't need to see every pore and cat hair on the floor. In my 5x5 powder I have 2 60s in an overhead fixture and it's pretty darn bright. Especially since I replaced the charcoal grey fixtures with white ones. Dining area needs bright lighting. You may consider installing a small track-lighting, wherein you can hang three pendant lights above your dining table. Or a chandelier with 200-400 watts (two 100 watt bulbs, for 60 or 75 watt bulbs, eight 50 watt bulbs and so on). You may also try to multiply the square footage of the room which is 12x13 by 1.5 to determine the required amount of wattage. So if you have 12x13 dimension, you'll be needing a 234 watts. You can multiply it by 2.5 for task lighting.

If 60w incandescents don't give enough illumination, then as vate says, you can simply use CFL bulbs. A 23w CFL puts out roughly as much light (lumens) as a 100w incandescent bulb, but easily fits within your 60w limit. A 32w CFL is roughly equivalent to a 150w incandescent. 40w CFL is roughly equivalent to a 200w incandescent - that might be a bit much. If you want a warmer, yellower light similar to an incandescent bulb, then make sure you get a ''soft white'' or ''warm'' CFL with light ''temperature'' around 2700 Kelvin, not a ''daylight'' CFL. Of course, the color of the pendant shade will influence the light color too. Some particularly small pendants can't physically fit the larger CFLs above 23w, so take a quick measurement.

Bathroom sconces not bright enough

I installed two sconces ( http://www.lampsplus.com/products/possini-euro-midtown-15-inch-high-satin-nickel-wall-sconce__t9723.html ) during a bathroom remodel. At first I had 2 60 watt equivalent LED bulbs. It wasn't bright enough. I put 2 60 watt incandescent bulbs and still not bright enough. I tried a different shaped bulb (taller) and no help. It says to use 60 watt bulbs. I haven't seen higher wattage in this size bulb (T10, medium base). What can I do to get more light? The sconces are on both sides of a 46" wide mirror. They are on a Lutron dimmer.

It's more than 3' from the tub.

Yes, my fixture has a dark shade. :) The rest of the bathroom is black. It'll work I think, just be a little more directional. (If it doesn't, moving on to Edison lights and steam punk.)

I was wondering if CFLs run cooler such that you can use a 100w CFL bulb where a 60w incandescent is the max rating. I wasn't sure about that but had heard that with LED bulbs that are 60w, they've been tending to look quite a bit brighter according to some people on this forum. Might try those.
