Detergents, additives, and fabric softener brands: 2013 Update
Comments (38)A Chinese business listing on a Bangladeshi online industrial directory included the following TAED product description: "Hongye Chemical Co., Ltd. can supply good quality TAED (tetra acetyl ethylene diamine) low-temperature bleaching activator for sodium perborate. Sodium perborate/TAED oxygen bleach formulation is widely used in laundry detergent, all-fabric bleach, automatic dishwashing and stain removal/cleaning products. The most commercialized low-temperature bleaching activator, TAED is typically applied in domestic laundry detergents, automatic dish-washing, bleach boosters, [and] laundry soak treatments, to improve the washing performance. TAED could be applied in textile bleaching to react with hydrogen peroxide in the bleach bath to produce a stronger oxidant. The use of TAED as a bleach activator enables bleaching at lower process temperatures, and under milder ph conditions. In [the] pulp and paper industry, TAED is suggested to react with hydrogen peroxide to form a pulp bleaching solution. The addition of TAED into pulp bleaching solutions results in a satisfactory bleaching effect. TAED used for [the] detergent industry is in granular form, free-flowing, and has several colors (mainly white, green, blue) to choose depending on users' choice." Comments (12)I agree almost 100% with Sshrivastava!! Many of us (me included) use hair conditioner everyday! I seriously could not get a comb thru my thin, delciate and heavily processed hair, if I did not alternate with cream rinses, conditioners and gooey protein packs!! Some being animal fat based, some being plant based! When I had my last Miele W & D set installed, I spoke a lot with the Miele tech about what products I use. He of course liked that I mainly use Persil, but said my German Ariel Powder was equally as good. He said the machines have been HEAVILY tested with both powder and liquid detergents, and BOTH are 100% fine (although some cycles require liquid detergent...comforters, express, denim...). In regards to liquid fabric softener, he said not only is it fine, Miele actually recommends it!! Liquid Fabric softener, as Sshrivastava said, makes our clothes softer, more manageable and really does help the fibers lay better, and reduces wear and tear on our clothes. The Miele tech said, that as long as you rinse the fabric softener dispenser and siphon valve with HOT water when done with the machine...there is NO worry about buildup in the drum, lines, seals or hoses. He said, that just does NOT happen. Build up, mold, mildew due to fabric softener occurs when people do not keep the soap tray clean and do not leave the main door to the washer open to breathe and dry out!!! In regards to "natural" plant based detergents and softeners...Miele DOES NOT recommended them at all. The tech said the "natural" products, especially being plant based actually do gum up the machines. When using warmer temps, especially Extra White and Sanitize...the plant based detergents and softeners change on the molecular level, and become somewhat sticky! Miele says no to plant based products, and especially NO to dryer sheets (plant based or conventional). Miele recommends Persil Powder or Persil Liquid (gel), Miele Care Collection, Tide he Powder, Tide he Liquid, and many other German detergents....See MoreAldi's detergent and fabric softener
Comments (28)@Mamapinky: it smelled OK, but something (what, I'm not sure) was missing. Maybe my scent memory is based more on the combo of detergent with the Downy that my parents used, more so than the stand-alone fs. I may call my parents, and ask them to schlepp to their ALDI to check it out. :) My dad is a fabric softener sommelier, if there were such a thing!...See MoreAdding fabric softener WITH detergent!
Comments (28)Jody, there's a softening of some sort, think its maybe a clay compound in the powders with FS, I notice a very slight difference using them without LFS, slightly more smooth fabrics. But I think as Dadoes says its more of a scent thing. I do like the powders with FS on jeans, as it seems to give them a more finished feel where LFS IMO is terriable on jeans, makes them too floppy lol...See Morewestvillager
