Oh, I like some of those. They all just seem like insufficient light for this situation, though. Part of the problem here is that to position the light low enough to actually illuminate the kitchen table, the fan blades are going to be in someone's face (when standing)! There is nowhere else really to put other lighting. The "room" in question has all windows on three sides, and the fourth side is open to the kitchen. No wall upon which to install a sconce, and this is all new construction so they're not going to open up the ceiling now to install recessed lights. This would be so much simpler if they didn't want a fan! The windows go almost all the way to the floor, so we can't even put a sideboard w/ lamps in the space. Melle, I thought I was the only one with this issue:-) First of all, I have fans in every room of the house except the kitchen, and I have to be careful about any light that is above them because it casts shadows and makes me nauseous after a while. Also, and this is why this isn't a small issue, strobe light effects have been proven to cause epileptic seizures and migraines in those prone to them (not all of the time, but they set off some electrical impulse...). I get migraines, so this is a huge deal to me. I think the cans can work, the recessed eyeballs are a great idea, too and in fact if I had my druthers, that is what I would use (because you can angle them and they seem more like gallery lights to me). But I do want to make sure you test some light up there with the fan on. It may not be an issue because your cans will be up much higher than the fan, but in some rooms when I've had this combo, the fan blades whirling past the cans cast shadows. Maybe your eyeball lights wouldn't be anywhere near the blades, in which case, this could work out well. In my experience, looking at can lights and where they will go, it's often hard to see them not looking weird. But when they're up and functioning, they tend to blend in. Good luck, I feel your pain (I have -- no, DH has -- CFLs in every room- esp painful in the bathrooms and the exterior front lights, which are gorgeous carriage lamps that are supposed to burn with the flickering gas look....you can SEE the CFLs in there...UGH. He has even stuck them in crystal antique lamps! He's so sweet; I love that he cares about the environment, but...geez).

Sorry, this seems rather confused. What is a "blue green combo"? "It had a white wire a green wire and a ground" also can't be right; the green wire IS the ground. Green is always ground. White is always neutral (except as below). Other colors, including blue, are hot. Ground and neutral are never connected together except at the main disconnect. Hot and neutral are never connected together. Hot and ground are never connected together. The only times when white can be hot, and may be connected to black, are when wiring a switchloop, or when using cable assemblies for wiring 240 volt circuits. In these cases the white conductor should be re-marked as black, red, or other non-green, non-white color, to avoid confusion. I don't think either of these applies here. If you actually have red connected to green, you've connected hot to ground. You may be in danger of electrocuting someone - such as yourself. However, it's hard to tell whether you really have it set up that way, because I'm having a lot of trouble reading what you wrote. You use almost no punctuation and capitalization. Is that really necessary? You aren't typing on a cell phone here. Maybe I'm just a cranky old so and so, but if you can't take time to write properly and clearly, I don't see how you can expect anyone to take time to respond.

well, if its a new build I would do recessed, no real need for linear unless you have art work to high light that cannot be reached by the can lighting. Placement of the recessed lights around the fan wil be important too. because you do not want them too close to the fan blades. I suggest. going to a quality lighting store for ideas, and also talk you your designer. Layers of light is important. if you can post a floor plan I might have some ideas for you., Im not a pro, but I spent a lot of years in lighting. Other pros will jump on this I'm sure.
