It's a really lovely rose. After looking at it for 3 years now in the nursery, I finally planted two of them on a new arbor a few weeks ago. One of them has since sent out about 5 new basal canes, and they have not stopped blooming. I believe it's supposed to be a sport of Hermosa, and has those same wonderful flowers. Hermosa was a great, healthy rose for me in Texas, so I imagine if this is truly its climbing sport, it should do wonderfully for you in SC. --Ron

I'm in zone 9a and my parents, who live next door, have a good sized patch of this ginger growing in their yard. It's growing under a sweet gum tree on the south side so they get part sun and part shade. The plants get watered by the irrigation twice a week and whenever it rains but other then that get no special treatment. They freeze back to the ground every winter but never fail to come back in the spring. Right now they are blooming. This is a pretty tough ginger that doesn't need any babying.

Javachik--thanks for posting! This gave me a much needed kick in the pants. And your daughter is beautiful! This thread totally captures my m.o. I considered starting a similar thread a couple weeks ago, but I got distracted.. ;-) Lately, my MBR is the unending 'work in progress.' I spent several months shopping for a new duvet cover, then finally gave up (couldn't find the colors I wanted) and purchased a regular comforter. It took me two months to put the new comforter on the bed & store my old duvet covers. For about a year, I've intended to buy new chairs to replace the wicker chairs at the foot of the bed. I finally ordered some a couple weeks ago, and DH assembled them last weekend. Now I need to work on replacing art in that room. I framed & hung prints over the bed yesterday, but I still need something to put over DH's nightstand. I promised myself that I wouldn't post to this thread until I'd made progress on at least one more task! So that motivated me to do a 'test run' of various framed prints that I have in other rooms to see if anything works in the MBR, and confirmed what I suspected (none of them quite suit the space over DH's nightstand). So I will probably order something tonight. This thread also motivated me to frame one of my uncle's drawings (I bought the frame in September(!) but just ordered a custom mat last weekend). I ordered custom wood blinds for the MBR in November(!), and they're still in the boxes in the sunroom. My goal for today is to decide whether we can hang the blinds ourselves, or whether we will hire a handyman. I couldn't hang them when they first arrived because I had major neck pain in Nov-December, but that subsided in early January, so it's no longer an excuse.

jem199 While you are doing it, it is rather daunting and difficult. I have buyer's remorse all the time. I have done 4 separate large phases of remodel in the past 13 years of marriage. I have picked countless color samples, tiles, etc etc in that period. I have spent so much money that I am embarrased to admit to myself how much. We have embarked on yet another remodel. I painted my kids playroom using true red and periwinkle blue, and it came out fabulous. My TV room is dark eggplant color. It has been exciting and scary at the same time taking these bold steps. People always say that paint is cheap. Well it's not when you are paying someone else to do the painting! Every decision locks in the choice and closes other possibilities and that is not a comfortable place to be for most of us because we are not certain of the outcome until we can see it! When you put alot of thought into it, it almost always turns out great. There may be a few minor details that you are not completely satisfied, but in the whole, it is so much better than what you started out with that it is all worth it. I wish you the best.
