Think I lost my mind!
Comments (9)Yowzers! Our thrift stores don't bargain here. The only way you get a deal is when they have sales. And our area is like like Marilyn (flowers12) said about Northern CA, the prices for glass pieces are high. I only buy special items or wait for 1/2 off sales. I know how you felt though. Yesterday my friend, DH and I went to a church rummage sale near my friend's house. We go every year. We went when things were marked 1/2 off and I got a bunch of things for a total of $8. Then my DH and I went back in at 2:30 for the $3 for a cart full of stuff! And let me tell you, my husband can fit 100 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag so you can imagine what he did with a shopping cart. lol By the time we were ready to check out, our load was teetering. I got a bunch of bud vases for totems that fit over rebar/pipe and jello molds to try using for concrete. I think my DH grabbed every plate he saw whether it was ugly or not. I got a big mirror to mosaic the frame and a 3 plate holder to use to hold plate flowers to hang on the garage or fence. My junk lovin' husband and I always have a blast at this rummage sale. Isn't it fun to hit the motherload? lol...See MoreI've lost my mind, and a basil
Comments (12)Haha, your post is funny token! I haven't lost a plant, but like mbhoney, I have a couple plants and I have no idea what the he!! they are. It frustrates me because I should have marked them or put them on the map I make of my beds, but I did neither and now I feel like an idiot for not knowing what I'm growing when I'm the one who planted them last year. I also have at two things growing which are either something I planted or they're weeds. I'm waiting for them to get a little larger hoping I'll be able to tell which they are, then. I hope at that time if they're weeds, they haven't dropped seeds. Robin...See MoreI think I've lost my mind....two extremes
Comments (25)If you're thinking Arts & Crafts bungalow, you can always look to some of the originals, many of which now have painted trims (though honestly I *wish* more of them still had their original stained trim, ours included!) It was also very common to paint trim and cabinetry (and thus use "lower grade" wood, which in those days meant redwood or fir instead of oak) in the kitchen, bath, and bedrooms and have stained trim and casework in the dining and living rooms, and that worked fine. That might be a way to manage costs while still getting the look you love. And I've seen some gorgeous kitchen remodels using cherry or fir cabinets with painted white trim and white built-ins that mix it up a bit in houses where the trim had already been painted but people didn't want white kitchens (and didn't want the cost of replacing original trim!) Fir in particular is one of my faves with soapstone, though it is a soft wood so it will ding. We also have a painted gray and white kitchen, which mixes it up a bit in a different way. There's no rule that painted cabs must be white---and honestly, a lot of the reason that listings for houses of that age have painted cabinets (especially white) is that it's a very easy way to clean up and "modernize" older cabinets for resale. (At least, that happens a lot where we live---people paint and put on new counters to sell an older kitchen.) Some of those were probably put in as stained kitchens, but had woods that aren't "trendy" these days and thus dated the kitchens. I love our painted kitchen, but if we'd had the resources, we would have seriously considered QS oak or fir (even the fir was far more costly than our paint-grade poplar). I'd be sure you're okay with the tradeoff before switching gears....See MoreZodiaq Order: Holy Cow I've Lost My Mind!!!
Comments (17)hi chocolatebunny... i've been thinking of you, too! i wouldn't give up just yet. your sq footage is 8 ft, but what are the dimensions of your island? would a vanity size fit that? i am sure SOMEONE can fabricate a vanity equivalent for you, even from a remnant. i found my fabricator totally by accident. i was googling something about cambria, and i found a forum he was posting on. he doesn't even list zodiaq on his website; i emailed and asked. so you never know. btw... the Dupont website "dealer locator" was a waste of time! the best/nearest fabricator listed doesn't even sell zodiaq, only corian. he's talked to them, but DuPont doesn't bother to fix their listing. so you'll have to keep hunting. quartz (composite) is expensive, but i found nothing equivalent i wanted. so i feel very fortunate this worked out. but you never really know until the stuff is actually installed... then you can breathe! i really wish you good luck. keep us posted. :)...See Moregraywings123
