Ceiling too high for pendant light. . . what to do?

In our new room (under construction) the kitchen table will be under a 16 foot high ceiling which will have recessed lighting. The architect shows a pendant light over the table, but the cord would hang down more than 16 feet. I have a little wall space near the table and I wondered if there was a fixture that you could put on on the wall and attach about a 4 foot rod with the light that would go from the wall to over the table. The long pendant drop doesn't appeal to me.

Thanks for any suggestions. I even wondered about track lighting hanging vertically on this wall, but I am not sure that is the right type of light for eating!
