Wow, those are incredibly beautiful windows. Do you need drapes or are you just looking to add some texture/softening/color?

Do you need draperies for privacy? I would be concerned about losing much of your window space if you add draperies as you plan. There appears in the picture to be very little space between the windows and the door or corners. If you are planning to have them extend over the door, you have the issue of the heating vent, so I am guessing that is not your plan. Full panels, even if they don't close, will not pull back enough and you may lose most of each end window panel.

Your room and view are wondeful. If they were mine, I wouldn't use window treatments at all. Of course, have to admit we don't use any at our house, so my opinion may be skewed. If you need coverage for privacy, you might want to consider bottom up shades.

Some architect, contractor and glass man worked hard to give you all that beauty. Don't drown it in fabric.

Oh My!... I am just awed by the beauty of this room....The sound of "full" pleated drapes just does not sound right for this room, seems dated...and they would really close in the windows. If it were my room I think I would opt for something light, thin, almost gauzy type and certainly not full....You could still do 4 of them. Those windows are just too beautiful to cover up.

I'm a window treatment person, but even I agree, in this case, that not covering your lovely windows in fabric would be the better move...unless you absolutely need to for privacy.

If I needed privacy, I would go with a very light fabric and an inside mount in each window, mounted at the mullion. I'd like to see a center draw shade that will fall in a soft arch when drawn up, and provide privacy when let down, yet still allow most of the window to show.

I'm looking but can't find other images of what I'm thinking of...perhaps someone know what you call these kinds of shades?

Anyway, I don't see where you have any room for drapes, unless you want to cover a lot of window. It's really more solarium-y. I guess you could throw up a valance, but they seem so dated now.

Like others have said, what is the purpose? That of course shapes the answer.

Gorgeous room! I am a drapes person too, and I just can't see it in that room.

It is a very pretty room, but obviously no one spent any time considering how it could be decorated. Drapes are going to look crowded and unbalanced when you look at the door. If you need privacy or sun control, I would just use the slimmest duette type shade, inside mounted and white to match the trim. The Hunter Douglas 3/8" size are the least bulky in the market.

Put shades outside and have your husband roll them up and down as needed or not. ;-)

Found this picture on Pinterest. I think it can work and soften the room. The windows in this picture are beautiful, and I have a hunch if the owner of that room asked about curtains, you all might think he/she should not cover them either.

I believe this is Kates' breakfast room that she is asking about. I think we also have to remember that this is not the only room in the house with such gorgeous windows, meaning she isn't covering up the only pretty ones she has.

I think the window treatments Bee posted would be ideal for Kate's room! They are the style that I thought of immediately when seeing the photo of her gorgeous breakfast room. I probably wouldn't line the drapes b/c I think the lightness of this particular style is important. I am sure someone else will have a good fabric suggestion, but a lightweight linen or textured cotton would be so pretty.

I think that the window treatments that Bee posted would work as well--- how pretty! I love drapes, sigh....

Kate, can I ask where you purchased the square pedestal table? I need a 48" square table and they are very hard to find.

Love the medium weight unlined linen. I wouldn't do triple width, 1.5-2 would be plenty. The drapes would soften the lines of the windows. It is a beautiful, beautiful room, but I am a drapery person! It feels unfinished. I vote no to shades of any kind unless you add panels too.

bcaf: i agree, square tables are incredibly hard to find. i had mine made custom from an amish company i found online. i just tried searching for them, as i can't remember their name -but i can't seem to find them.

they made the table to my specs and i chose the base from an example i saw on their website. i'll post back if i find them, but you can just google and i'm sure you'll come up with someone. people on the kitchen forum have had things custom made from different dealers so you might ask over there as well.

i was ready to bite the bullet and order a $3K hickory white table, but then i had an "a ha!" moment and went this route. i think i paid $800 and it's solid cherry.

I love bees drapes too, but the windows in her pic are wider than yours are.

I think the room could use a little softening, but those windows are STUNNING and I would hesitate to cover them and I don't remember privacy being an issue?

A lovely square rug would go a long way to making it feel more finished I think?
