Read the manual. ..does it say to clean the exterior of the washer with a damp rag and mild soap?

I don't allow anything in a spray bottle to enter the laundry room. That stuff goes in places you wouldn't believe when it gets airborne. The same rule applies to hair spray, aerosol deodorants, and candles.

Same thing happened to me. The machine is not even 6 months old. Ridiculous that these machines are made so cheaply. If this was not printed on plastic but actually paint sprayed on, it would not happen. I had the same machine, older model for over 6 years and nothing like that happened. They always want to blame the consumer. Do not use soap on a washing machine. If this was a man's product, it would never be tolerated.

Not just washers either. I'm losing my lettering on my old microwave and my wireless keyboard too. And the keyboard certainly has not been exposed to any cleaners from a spray bottle.

I have the same problem with the lettering wiping off. It seems like an easy fix for LG to offer decals to replace the faulty lettering. My washer is working well, just have a problem with telling the water temperature levels. I will never buy another LG product after reading these messages. The company should have bent over backwards to fix this faulty design problem that they created. I lost my lettering by simply wiping off my washer with a clean wet cloth!! It happened the first week I had it. It has been over 5 years now and I just have to guess at the temperature.

My letters also came off after wiping it clean with a wet rag. I keep a picture of the settings from the manual of top of my washer so I know what each button does and the order of the settings. I know how many times to push each button and what setting I'll get. You should be able to find a manual online if you no longer have yours. My washer also works great, and other than this very frustrating problem I love it. However, I also will never buy another LG washer, or any other brand, with this type of letterimg.

I have the same problem with a 6 month-old LG washing machine. Regardless of LG's advice on cleaning, it is to be considered absolutely normal that some cleaning product used in the laundry might find its way on top of the washer and needs to be wiped off. I'm not talking about spraying something on purpose to clean the front panel... In that case yes, you should be careful what you use. But if the writing on the top front panel cannot withstand gentle wiping off from a light spill or spray, that is a product fault. I used a damp cloth rag and did not press at all... It all smudged and came right off. I can hardly read what's what now.

Imagine if you had that on a stovetop... "Please make sure no oil, grease or sauce spills on the lettering, and use only water to clean the controls." What a joke!

I am with the anti-LG folks. . If they offered some kind of decal as a fix, that would be one thing. Seeing as how they apparently don't offer this, it's all the more irritating, Just don't buy their products at all - that's it - DONE.

This also happened with our LG washing machine. Crazy thing is, nothing takes the writing off the dryer. I cautiously tried in one spot. Does the same company make all the washing machine control panel faces? Maybe they don't do a proper job on the washing machine panels. I am not buying another product by LG. When I am appliance shopping, I do let them know that I will not look at LG.

My mother's KitchenAid (Whirlpool) washer (has been gone for 7 years) and dryer (still in use) dating to 1994 caught deterioration on the panel and knobs from stain treatment overspray and general environmental exposure (not in climate-controlled space). It happens. I advised her to be aware of the issue. The Kenmore (Whirlpool) washer that came in next didn't catch so much of it.

I feel obligated to share. I read through these reviews while my washer/dryer were on order and not yet delivered. I work on cars for fun, ordered some ClearBra, and cut to fit. I'm going to make extras while I have a template for my LG, and sell a few on Ebay to recoup some cost/time. As others mentioned, clear tape was an option, I was looking for no wrinkles and didn't mind mixing and spraying a little water/dishsoap to see if it worked.

Same problem, 14 months old. Please note that I have never used anything but "eco friendly" laundry soap. No stain removers or bleach. I had a miserable time with their customer support. I will never buy one of their products again. I wish we could get the word out about this.

I have the same problem of letters on dial smeared. Just chatted with their customer service, and they are not helpful at all! Asked me for serial number and exact purchase date, only to tell me I am out of the 1-year warranty. I knew that, and asked if there is a website that consumers can do self-service and print out an image of the dial. Nope, sent me to the product user manual website to figure it out by myself. Nothing specific at all. Bad service.

We no longer buy LG because of this issue and the terrible customer service. I put clear contact paper over the control panel. Too bad that I didn't know to do that right away before much of the text was smeared away. A company that cares would put a protective layer over it if necessary. This is a washing machine - you use cleaning materials like liquid detergents and stain removing sprays by it all the time!

Here is the image of the control panel on mine from their PDF manual. Unfortunately, it is a low resolution image because it is from a PDF. In the future, I might replicate it in a design program so that I can have a decent looking washing machine in my laundry room. If you do that, be sure to print it with a laser printer and not an inkjet. But then also cover it with contact paper to protect it -you don't want to make the same mistake that LG does.

Not only are the decals coming off, now the paint! This washing machine is one year old! This is insane. I will not be purchasing anything from LG every again. Their products are sleek and nice and who cares if they look like junk because the paint comes off and it rusts! Shame on you, LG!

Great. I was searching for a solution online. Same thing for me as this washer is less than 2 years old and the decals are completely gone. What in the world kind of product? Trust me. Don’t by LG. Life is NOT good. We’ve been bamboozled. Our darn LG tv went out after 6 months and they blamed it on us! No we didn’t drop it or kick it, just hanging on the wall. Mine rubbed off just by touching it. I didn’t use water, cleaner, etc. Simply touching it made it rub off! People need to stop buying this Chinese crap and/or make these billion dollar corporations that are ripping us off held accountable.

Years ago I discovered that laundry detergent worked as a better (for my stains) stain remover. Sprays won't be touching my w&d. BUT, I DO use a bottle of 50/50 water/alcohol on a cloth to wipe down the exteriors. Is that OK?

I use liquid detergent in these little soft side squirt bottles to pretreat. One contains regular liquid deterg and the other is for darks.

the lettering started coming off our LG washer. This is a washer dang it, and detergents are bound to go all over, LG should have put this on their Test criteria or Quality assurance before rolling it out especially from all the complaints from all over..and these are controls ..if they disappear and no picture or manual of it you wont know how to operate it efficiently :(, LG WAKE UP..its 2020..get your act together..also compensate or offer a free FIX this problem for countless folks like us!!! Put it this way if lettering comes off my car controls this would be a recall and be fixed. It is a disservice to consumers..LG needs to FIX this period..I will NOT be buying LG products for now. :((

LG is getting bad. I had a brand new $1500 tv from them last year. It broke after 4 months. The sound kept going out. Called LG. They told us to take off wall so they could come repair. Did that and when they got there they said the screen was going back as we damnaged the screen. We had not. We had not dropped it. No one there anything. Guy says it can come from touching screen to hard. I’m like “our you kidding me? Because if that’s the case they need handles!!! No warranty because it voided when we took off wall because wait.... they said we shouldn’t have. Seriously. LG sucks Never again.

Like everyone else my washer is almost useless as writing has worn off. I see this has been an issue for over ten years. Astounding they don't posses the technology to fix a simple issue or the desire to remedy this.

Hello, yes, you aren't the only one. I too have an LG, grey in color, with red and white labeling, indicating the different cycles.

I was shocked to see where some soap from the spicket had dripped and was causing the letters to smear.

We did purchase the extended warranty from Lowe's, where we purchased the units.

I find it rediculous that the lettering can't stand up to laundry soap, which I think mearly impossible not to happen!

I have had my LG washer and dryer over 4 years now. It looks and functions like the day we had it Installed. I love it, absolutely no issues. I only have used Windex to clean it. I loved this LG washer and dryer so much, I purchased an LG dishwasher, LG portable air conditioner and a LG TV. I love them all❣️ No issues with any of them.

Maybe since my LG washer and dryer is older than must of yours (mine is over 4 years) , maybe the labels on the machines were fabricated differently. Maybe that is why my machines don’t have any issues with the labels coming off?

I bought a new electric LG range in May. The numbers around the temerature knobs are disappearing as is the diagram that shows which burnerer the knob is used for.

i have followed the directions for cleaning this range very carefully, using only SS cleaner and never scrubbing. The customer service person did not sound like she believed me.

LG is sending a new backing part and will have a technician install it. Customer service said he’d tell me how to care for it. Guess that means don’t touch it. No more LG for me.

I have the same issue as you described. Mine was bought in April 2021. The tech came out and said we used a scrubby, which we haven’t and LG customer service has not got back to us. You can rub mine off with your finger. Did you get your new part yet?

They sent the wrong color part because they keyed in wrong model number. so we got part for black range, not SS. They said they would send out correct one but never did. My husband has spent YEARS (it seems) on hold trying to get them to send out SS part with numbers on it. Finally got someone who knew what they were doing to talk to him today. Had to practically begin process all over again but they saw their error and say they will send out SS part. Hope so…but who knows? If they would only send out new set of decals for these appliances it would be far easier and less expensive for LG. I’d be willing to pay for a couple sets since my range is only 7 months old. Since I did not scrub the numbers on my range to begin with, the new part may not hold up either. Doubt water alone will remove grease spots or spatters. :(

Yes! Mine have more or less disappeared! I live in Africa, and during the rainy season the humidity is high, surely this shouldnt happen! will say I do love my machine, just looks awful in my new kitchen. hones honestly looking for another brand now because of this, unless it can be repaired?

There were no decals for my model of range. Because my range was pretty new, LG replaced the entire part. I have used nothing but Dawn in warm water to clean off grease on my replacement part. Looks like the ‘ThinQ’ word is coming off, but I don’t care about that. Hoping the other print stays on.

Good luck! Had the same issue with LG several years. Now have Samsung and the Exact same issue. Both companies deem this problem as ‘cosmetic’ and not covered under warranty. They will also be quick to ask you what cleaners you have used in the panel.
It’s obvious that this is and has been an ongoing issue. It is now getting difficult to know exactly where to turn my dial. While it could possibly be deemed cosmetic at the onset of the issue, it has now become an issue concerning the overall use and functionality of my washer. Hard to do your load of laundry when you don’t know what setting your working with!!

Hello, I have the same issue with letters and numbers fading away around the knobs on my LG electrical range that is over a year old. I had to print the image of the panel from the internet and post it above my range so that I know which way to turn my dials. This is outrageous! Prior to buying this range, we had to dispose of another range that was only 4 years old because the panel plastic was peeling off, and it would have cost us over $400 to replace the panel. Unfortunately LG does not stand behind their products and does not offer any solutions to correct manufacturing defects, their products have become of very poor quality unless you pay for the top of the line appliances… Does anyone have a solution as to how to fix the problem with disappearing letters and numbers? I would greatly appreciate it!
