I'd like a light-veined, non-busy marble subway tile (?)

Hello -

I'm *planning* on getting honed marble subway tile. I'm having a very hard time though, figuring out if what I like based on pictures I've seen is what I would actually get. Do they vary that much?

I think what I want is called honed statuary marble, but at other times I've heard it referred to as statuary carrara. So what is it? Is statuary a kind of marble, or a kind of carrara marble? Googling didn't help.

I'm aiming for a subway tile backsplash that is not too busy looking, to go with my stainless steel countertop and white Shaws farm sink (going for the period look even though using stainless on the countertop, and the marble helps). I prefer a marble tile that has the occasional bit of tan mixed in but not too much. That way it will blend better w/ my wood floors as well as give me more possibilities for wall paint colors. Nor do I want too much grey. Just subtle.

My inspiration pic for the tile came from the gardenweb user named Deee (2nd pic down):

How beautiful is that?!

My original inspiration pic for the combination of stainless (for a period kitchen) and marble as the backsplash material - though I prefer subway tile instead of slab - came from another gardenweb user, I think named prettkitty (?). Here's a link to one of her pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/quapaw/Our1890HomeAndKitchenRemodelRestoration?feat=embedwebsite#5252785683535247410

...and here's another one of her kitchen from a distance:

Also, while I've got your attention, ;) does anyone have an eye for size recommendations? I originally wanted white or bone colored 2x6 subway tile just because our old house originally had 2x6 tile - not 3x6 (also, it's more unique). I don't think I can find that in marble but even if I could, what I should consider now is: in what size would the marble look less "busy," without compromising on looking appropriate for the period? Do I want 2x8 tile instead of 3x6? 4x8? I guess i need to find a local store and start placing them out on a table to get a feel for what would look best!

If anyone can recommend a good place to get marble tile, I'm open to suggestions! I'm in the N.W. but some places don't over-charge for shipping so it can be from beyond my region too I think.

Thank you!
