I need to finalize my cabinet choice by Thursday!

We are meeting with our cabinet-maker on Thursday to finalize the layout and cabinets so he can start building the cabinets. I keep changing my mind on the style of door. Every time I look at Houzz.com, I find I like the kitchens that are traditional, eclectic and mediterranean. So what style door do I go with??? We have had shaker style in our last house so I want something different. But my husband doesn't like raised panel. I thought I had found a cabinet door a while back that I liked and posted it here but the cabinet maker said the door was veneered from the looks of it so he couldn't do that one. Any ideas? Our house is a 1965 ranch. The entire house has teak handscraped hardwood floors including the kitchen. So we were thinking stained alder or hickory cabinets with a painted island in a distressed charcoal. I once saw a picture of a cabinet that described it as reversed raised panel. It looked similar to a shaker style but instead of the inset area being square, it was angled. But now I can't find the picture. Anyone have anything like this?

My cabs are reversed raised panel Shaker. Love the front, shaker side. Here's what the back of the doors looks like. Is this what you meant?

Ladies & Gentlemen... After perusing this site for a NUMBER of months, I have finally decided on cabinets and a counterop :) Phew! I like a clean modern look, so I am going to use dark cabinets (walnut-colored) with a marble (danby statuary or calcutta) countertop and a raised white subway tile backsplash. I have a ge monogram stove, jenn air micro and dishwasher, and a viking fridge. The appliances are all stainless with those uber-cool handles. The draw pulls will be those long skinny ones that mirror the handles on the appliances. The inspiration for my kitchen came from this site: http://www.southernaccents.com/accents/homes/architecture/article/0,14743,1174487,00.html You can type in "vintage modern kitchen" in google and it will come up. I can't load pictures because they are not mine :( I have not picked a sink, facuet, paint color, or flooring. The inspiration pics show a dark wood flooring, but that's too much dark for my small kitchen. I was thinking a grey tile/travertine but I wanted to pick the your brain for ideas. What color(s)/materials should I be leaning to for the floor? And what about paint colors? Thanks for your input!

Now that you pasted both close to the bahia, I am even firmer about liking the (now) first one with it. It echoes the bahia better. However, I think I'd consider stainless for at least the sink area. It would be a mellow backdrop and allow the marble sink to show off more. It would also be very functional around the cooktop.... You could use as much citrus or other acids as you want ;) You'd be giving your fiance the bulletproof areas he wants and letting the bahia and marble be more noticeable.

UPDATE Well, after much consternation, I finally decided to go ahead with this choice of flooring. I wavered, I tossed and turned, I annoyed everyone I know with my whining. Then it got down to the wire. The tile I had ordered had come in and I had to decide whether to go get it or pay a restocking fee to return it. However, so much else would be delayed if I decided to wait that it became a much bigger issue than just the tile. Then, I talked to my friend who just had to have all the tile in her house ripped up and replaced because of problems caused by poor installation. As horrible as this sounded, she said it was really no big deal. Soooo, I decided that if it turned out that I really did hate it, I would make myself live with it for a year or two and then tear it up and replace it. That would give me plenty of time to pick out something I really loved. I would chalk it up to an expensive lesson. Well, yesterday, they laid the tile (grout comes tomorrow), and . . . I LOVE IT! It's even prettier than what I remembered from the store. It's much warmer and I think it will look great with my cabs and counters. It blends in beautifully with the wood floors and paneling everywhere else. I had it done in a running bond pattern, which looks perfect. I'm still a little concerned that this stone wasn't the best choice for a kitchen (honed and unfilled), but at least I love the way it looks. And, I still have the option of tearing it out down the road if upkeep becomes too much of a hassle. I can't tell you how relieved I am. Thank you all for your reassurance during my little crisis! how about a recessed panel with bead around-hubby will be happy and you might be happy with this step up from plain shaker-see if you'd like the maker to glaze lightly. Just ask the cabinet maker what variations he can do on a recessed door-edge profiles/ mitered/bead or other...sometimes small tweaks to something you're basically okay with is better than a huge swing to Mediterranean for example....I think I'm reading "cleaner" looks are showing up in design just now. I'd even think of slab doors.

Breezygirl, could you show a close up of the front of the door? Does it look any different from a regular shaker door? I'm not getting it. Thanks!

This display is Medallion Alder with Hazelnut. The upper doors are a reversed raised panel with a molding applied to the center panel. I love doorstyles like this. It's a shaker style, dressed up!

In the thread linked below, Kompy shows a picture with both the inside and outside of cabinet doors showing the raised panel on the inside (reverse raised panel if I understand it correctly) and how it looks on the outside.

Also scroll down for pictures of Kompy's white buffet cabinets that have a routed inside edge. It's a variation of the flat edge Shaker style and very pretty.

I don't have a specific photo with a close up of the doors, but here's a pic that should give you an idea. The doors and drawers are just a simple shaker front.

Some shaker cabs are made with the stiles and rails on the the front and back looking just like my shaker front, but with a very thin panel as the slab part in the middle. Those tend to rattle a bit and don't feel as solid. Mine are extremely sturdy made this way.

You could poke around in my flickr account to see other photos if this one doesn't help. There are a couple more in there that have a semi-close up like this. HTH.

You don't have to finalize by Thursday. Reschedule if you aren't ready. Or run through the layout if you want.

But don't order a kitchen until you are dam*ed sure what you want. Your money--if the cabinetmaker wants it, he will accommodate you.

I'm surprised he couldn't do veneer or suggest a similar look in a solid wood. Hope you checked his references... :)
