WooHoo, my very first picture in a post!

Nice pic. But you do realize that now you have set a precedent, and hopefully this is just the first of many pictures that you'll post.

Detroit Skyline at night taken January 13

LOL I can't believe I am finally doing this. Now all I have to do is get a printer so I can scan my own pictures instead of stealing (with his permission) from my brother's Flickr account.

Anne

I have a question. If I wanted to take a picture from my niece's Facebook photos to post here do I do the same thing?

Just trying to see if this works. Picture of my Niece/Godchild Meagen from Facebook.

See what our caregiving days did to us put us behind times o n doing things but we are now catching on.
Greant pics by the way my friend hugs Kathy

I'm becoming more and more of a "ship" fan. The Blough caught my eye. I have the Arthur M. Anderson as my wallpaper. Interesting, they have the same paint scheme.

If you don't know the "Big Fitz", have you heard the Gordon Lightfoot song, The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald? Yup, same topic!

I'm an old fashioned dude. I'm awestruct that tons of steel will float, or for that matter, fly1 LOL

You are doing GREAT!

Love your pictures!

Cynic, here is another picture of the Arthur M. Anderson from my brother. This is small and I don't know how to make it bigger. I live just 2 blocks from the Detroit River not to far from where the ships enter from Lake St. Clair into the Detroit River shipping channel. I have grown up watching lake and ocean freighters and my Mom and I used to record every ship we saw. At night in the summer I can hear their engines as sail by and I love to hear the ship blasts especially when it is foggy out or two ships pass. Windsor's waterfront from down were I live in Riverside to the west end of Windsor is lined with waterfront parks where we have beautiful views of the river and the activity on it. St. Rose Park near close to where I live is right across from Belle Isle and the Coast Guard Station.

Your picture of the Anderson is a good one.

LOL, I am Canadian so I know who Gordon Lightfoot is and have seen him in person singing the song and the church he sings about that rings the bells for every man lost is in Detroit near the river and we have heard the bells ringing in November.

As a child I learned quickly the difference between a ship and a boat. My navy Dad always said "you can put a boat on a ship but you can't put a ship on a boat" LOL

Bigger pic.

Ah yes. The Edmund Fitzgerald. This ship was named after an executive of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Milwaukee, WI. He took it very hard when "his ship" went down and all crew were lost. Ed Fitzgerald's son, Jr., was CEO of Cutler-Hammer Corp. in the 1970s.

If I am not mistaken the church on the right side of the picture is the church mentioned in the song that rings its bells for each of the men lost.

I enjoy going to Duluth and watch the ships. There's something so majestic about them. And somehow the older ones have more interest to me than the newer, albeit larger ships. I took a tour of the William A. Irvin when I was in Duluth a couple years ago and I found it very interesting. People make mistakes designing anything. They made a mistake on that one. They used wood burning stoves for the kitchen! Once being thrown around and the wood go-a-flyin, they converted to electric stoves! That struck me so funny that they wouldn't have thought about that.

BTW, I can't take credit for the Anderson photo. I found it and since the Anderson has a special meaning to me, and it was a great shot, I use it for a wallpaper. Had a couple others that I've used before too. Although I tend to change wallpaper occasionally.

Certain shipwrecks hold a facination for me too. The Fitz of course, the Titanic and the Andrea Doria are some of the top ones. There was a great show on PBS about the Fitz where they interviewed the captains of the Anderson and another ship that assisted in the search. There were several theories presented as to why it sank and was very well done.
