Kitchen sink types - which one do you have and why ?
Comments (56)Yes, I know it's different. When we moved into our house, it had a dishwasher. It broke, within a couple months. Dh can fix anything, so he bought the part and fixed it. Then, another part broke. OK, so I'm done trying to glue that dw back together. We bought a new one (when we redid the floor from all the water damage). We bought a nice one, about $500. It got the dishes very clean, worked great, for about 2-3 years. I had been limping along with it, pretending that it did dishes when it started making an awful noise. I finally quit using it, but didn't notice that water was collecting in it and sitting. Yuck! Dh took it out, since we couldn't afford a new dishwasher so soon. Nor, did I think it was worth the money. It also seems to me, that my counters are cleaner this way. With the dishwasher, I would put the dishes in and not do the other dishes. They would sit there for way too long. If I'm hand washing dishes, I do it one to two times a day and do all the dishes. I know a lot of people have much better luck with theirs, but I cook a lot, and if I have one I stick everything in it that I can, so it runs a couple times a day....See MoreDo you like silgranite sinks instead of stainless?
Comments (27)Yes, Silgranit can chip. I doubt it would from a heavy cast iron pot or pan though. My chips came from dropping a heavy 8" chefs knife point straight down from about 10" up. The other chips came from dropping the sharp edged Kohler drain basket a couple times (arthritic hands). Something very sharp edged has to hit the sink very hard for that to happen, and even then you only get a tiny minuscule chip that no one else even notices. After that I bought the sink grid. No more problems. I might add, that either of these "drops" would have created chips or dents in a stainless or ceramic sink too. Over all, I cannot think of a better, easy to care for sink. It always looks good....See MoreSilgranit sink - don't your dishes break when you drop them?
Comments (3)I can't speak to dishes breaking (we haven't dropped any in the sink... yet...) but we have had great luck with glassware. Glasses (both regular & wine) have gotten knocked over many times without a single shatter. It almost bounces against it without any problems. I love my silgranit sink. I'd definitely choose it again!...See MoreSilgranit Sink Owners-Silly Question For You
Comments (3)I got both mine from home and stone, 1&3/4 and a rectangular prep. The prep has cracks like that, the double doesn't. I figured it must be within tolerances, or Blanco wouldn't pack and ship them. If you learn differently, be sure to let us know......See Morebreezygirl
