Does soapstone show dust / is it hard to keep clean?
Comments (7)I live on a dirt road with no central AC, so the windows are open a lot, and I get dust EVERYWHERE! I've never had a problem with it showing on the soapstone, though I do make sure to wipe the counter before I use it just to make sure it's clean (just because I can't see it does not mean it's not got some on it). My finished oak countertop on the baking center shows the dust way more than the soapstone. My original plans were for butcher block over stone because I can't get a fabricator at an affordable price in SD (I went DIY). But I'm so much happier with soapstone than I would have been with the butcher block, mostly because I love being able to set hot pans down without a worry, and I love working directly on it with dough and other stuff. Things defrost much faster, and I can cool down hot bakeware fast (like a cookie sheet between batches). The drawback is if you want something to stay hot or cold, don't put it directly on the stone. Most of that any stone will do that, but butcher block won't. I have a marble slab I can put in my freezer if I need to work chilled dough....See MoreSeems show worse on light color quartz counter than dark?
Comments (4)Probably, but only because the seam, even if done well in a white quartz counter, will gather dust and gunk, which will turn dark. Eventually, this will stand out against a white counter while it would blend into a dark counter, whose seam is matched dark to begin with. Same idea as with tile and white vs. dark grout. I ave a nice tight seam in my white Caesarstone Blizzard counter. I barely notice it, but I take care to keep it clean. There was a recent post about this, where I posted pics of my seam. Comments (6)When they drilled the holes for our faucet/soap dispenser/air switch, we didn't seem to have a problem. However, when they ground down part of the back of the granite to reduce the gap b/w the counter and wall, they got granite dust in all the drawer glides of the cabinet they were grinding "over". The dust doesn't appear to have "traveled" up. We just found out that contrary to what we were told, they will be doing the cooktop cutout inside our house...so I'm in the same boat as you. My DH, after our bad experience w/the first installation, has already requested that they remove ALL drawer glides of the cabinets they're working over. They have agreed...but I'll wait and see what really happens! [I mean actually remove them completely from the cabinets...NOTHING left behind!]...See MoreShow me your black cooktop on granite counter
Comments (9)buehl - Ours will not have the SS only because I was worried about the crumbs collection but I really like how yours looks redroze - Thanks that looks nice. I was not sure how the black cooktop would look on a lighter granite. I'm worried since mine will be on the peninsula that it will really stand out. Do you find that yours stands out to you?...See Morefriedajune
