How many pendant lights do I need for an 8' dining table?

Hi,

We have a 3'x8' dining table in our formal dining room.

We are thinking of Fucsia Suspension lights. They come in groups of 1, 3, 8, 12 pendants to a group.

So to provide enough lights for the dining table do we go with

two groupings of 'Fucsia Three Light Suspension Lamp' (see link below)

one set of 'Fucsia Eight Light Suspension Lamp' http://www.ylighting.com/fuscia8.html

single pendants - if so how many?

Is there a formula?

I wouldn't exceed 6" in diameter. Depends on your ceiling height as well. However, if it is 8ft or so I'd stick with 5 to 6" in diameter depending on your space. I'd select fixtures that work best for the space. If there is not a lot of other lighting in the space then you want open or clear glass lights. If there is decent light from cans or..... and you want down lighting you can select cones or similar in metal fixtures.

There is no rule as to how many pendants you should have . I would suggest first finding the pendant that you like and then decide depending on the pendant chosen. Question is why do you think you need brass lamps ? What is the overall design of your home ? Assuming that the existing track is in the correct position (over the table) and you don't want to mess with the ceiling electrical, you can attach a pendant to a track. For example, this Progress adapter (from which a pendant can be hung) attached to a Progress track. This simple WAC pendant attaches to a WAC track with a track adapter (option 2).

You center the top that attaches to the ceiling over the center of your table. BTW those Edison bulbs are close to useless for lighting the lowest light is hung so that it is 30" from the table top in this case the two heads one globe on cylinder IMO the center one does not matter it will automatically be right.
