can i mix travertine and stainless steel tiles in backsplash?

Would love some input on our backsplash dilemma! Last month we installed Stormy Night granite in our kitchen. Now DH and I cannot agree on backsplash (don't even want to think about our next step-flooring!).

DH loves Mexican Noce Tumbled Travertine in a 3x6 tile. I think it is beautiful BUT somewhat dated (DH argues timeless, which is probably more correct), common (DH says just because lots of folks have it doesn't mean it is bad for us-very true!), and a little boring (DH says we need a sedate backsplash given our busy granite-and I agree!).

I like a solid recycled glass backsplash, probably in a light tan color OR a stainless steel backsplash. DH thinks both choices are way too contemporary/funky for our traditional kitchen (he's probably right!).

Our current thinking is to do Mexican Noce tumbled travertine but in 4x12 tiles (making it less traditional/more contemproary), with one band of stainless steel 2x12 tiles, possibly with a few (2x2 glass tiles in gold, silver, and off white for accent). Are we mixing too many mediums in the backsplash? Will our kitchen look too busy/confusing? Maybe leave out the glass tile accents? Anyone know of any pictures where stainless steel tiles have been used with travertine in a backsplash?

Not sure how to post multiple pics in same post so will post pics of granite and kitchen below.

Thanks!

Kate
