Help washing a dark cotton top with white embroidery
Comments (4)I would use cold water with about a cup of salt....to set the dye if possible....and I would include one of those dye catcher cloths. I forget what they are called but they grab ambient dye in the wash and rinse water/ And be sure to get it right out of the washer and into the dryer or on the line immediatly after the last spin. It says washable....so I would wash it and scream to the store if it runs! Linda C...See MoreMystery Yellow Stain on White Cotton Blanket
Comments (6)If there is a clear line of demarcation on the blanket, the yellow may have come from folding the blanket and storing it with one side touching a wooden shelf or cabinet. Luckily, most yellow stains come out as long as you haven't put the item in a hot dryer and set the stain. I have used Mama's Miracle Linen Soak on sheets, pillowcases, old lace doilies, and vintage baby clothes—some with terrible stains— and I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well on a cotton blanket....See Moregetting blood stains out of cotton sheets
Comments (12)I use 10 year old Asko 220V machine. I treat blood with Resolve spray (I think is the name) which used to be Spray and Wash. Then I wash with Tide HE plus Oxyclean at 160F plus temp. Never had any problems with stains. Oxyclean is predomantly Hydrogen peroxide as noted above. On tough blood stains, I have put oxyclean with mixed with water directly on the stain and soaked over night. I often soak my kitchen towels in Oxyclean and it is amazing the what comes out of the soaking... I am not sure if I helped you or not since most people cannot wash their clothes at a higher temp. This is why clothes were "boiled" in the olden days, to get the stains out.... The Asko washer always starts with cold water. Then the water is heated to a temp set by the machine (up to 200F). The machine cycle takes about 2 hours. No kidding. The warm/hot water sets in the stains before the chemicals have had the chance to do its work. Any type of protein stains get set into the fabric from the hot water....See MoreRemoving sweat stains for all cotton woven fabrics
Comments (14)I know it's sweat. It corresponds to exactly those places where I .... get sweaty! Mostly my back. I don't wash my show clothes every time - they are 100% cotton - they have to be pressed - I don't have time to do that for every wearing. When I can see anything on them, I move onto another one. My hair is short - not shampoo or conditioner. No hair color or hair spray. No jewelry running down the middle of my back, either. 2 of them have a box pleat at the middle back - so the part touching my back gets stained, not the part that is 2 layers further out. The part shielded from my skin by my bra does not get stained. My exercise clothes don't have a white background, so I wouldn't see them get yellow. Until 2 years ago, I never bought anything with a white background. But it's so hard to find sleeveless woven, not knit, all-cotton tops now, that look halfway nice for selling my work to the public on 100 degree days, that I was forced to buy these. So now I'm dealing with this problem.......See Moresspye
