Any tips for installing a slide-in range?

I think the Electrolux built-in model EW30IS65J S might be a good choice for me. It would replace my Dacor Dual Fuel which is a pro-style freestanding range. My granite countertop was installed to be flush to the sides of my Dacor. Because the Dacor has a 6" vented stainless backsplash , there is no granite behind it. The rest of the kitchen countertop has a 4" backsplash. Countertops were installed 12 yrs. ago, so I don't know if I can match the stone.

Have any of you put a slide-in range in the space where you had a freestanding stove without changing out stone countertops?

I have that Electrolux range, and so far (2 months) I love it! Not too sure what to recommend for the space behind and BS -- maybe a stainless steel piece? Can you incorporate some sort of decorative BS to deal with the rest? However, be sure that you have room to open drawers and cabinets on either side of the range. I have frameless cabinets, and a spacer had to be included so that the drawers could open. There is a lip that hangs down over the front, and so you need extra room to open drawers. Check the specs carefully, because you need more than 30" for the drawer/doors! If you have framed cabinets with space, you should be OK.

legallin, thanks for your feedback on this range. I'm glad to know you're pleased with it, so far. The sales rep printed out the specs & I'll go over those carefully. My cabinets have frames, so I may be okay.

We're replacing the OTR microwave w/ a new hood, so that backsplash area will have to be totally redone. Right now I just have painted walls. It's that small area directly between the range and back wall that has me stumped.

Mine wasn't a replacement, but I'd read here that it was important to have a 1-inch filler on either side of the range for clearance. The counter was installed first, then the range slid into place. I realized that the counter forced the range to be farther away from the back wall than it needed to be due to the flared front, so when the fabricators came back to install my island marble I had them notch out a little on either side of the stove so that it could be pushed back just a bit more. I probably gained about 3/4" that way.

To wrap things up, I thought to mention that we went with a custom solution with Microtrim. Excellent customer service, and so far we're happy with the solution. They essentially made us a U-shaped piece that rests on the countertop. The vent cover then rests on top of it. I've uploaded some photos to the folder linked in my original post above if you'd like to have a look, i.e., http://tinyurl.com/GE-slide-in-gap A couple notes. 1. To make this work, you have to remove the vent cover- the silver piece that's causing the problem by being designed too short. It's attached by 2 screws. The screws go through two tabs on the vent cover. In order for this to work, the vent cover needs to be able to move up a bit with respect to the back of the stove where it's attached by the screws. This way, the vent cover rests on top of the trim piece that Microtrim made for us. And this is how you get a neater look. 2. In order to do that, you have to use tin snips or some such to cut a slot out of the screw holes in each tab. I haven't done this, but plan to use fender washers (washers that are thick- that is, they might be 1" diameter, but the hole in the center might be 1/8". Think of a metal disk with a hole in the middle.) It's tricky, and this hasn't been on the top of our to do list. Right now, it looks good, but it's not completely secured. The front edge of the vent cover hooks under the rear edge of the cooktop. 3. Be careful: the vent cover is pretty sharp, and can scratch the fine finish of the trim piece. Remember, it's resting right on top of it. Hope that helps! PS: big, big, big caveat: moving the vent cover like I did may void your range's warranty; and there may be some non-insignificant change to the risk your stove poses to your home, so do all this at your own risk! :-)

I clean the track and in between the puller arm and the track with Brake cleaner few times . Wiping with a cloth in between to remove the residue . Works like a charm. I do stay away of lubes products which can make the dust stick even more in the long term use .

There is a thread on here about the same issue with the Bosch induction slide in. There is a kit you can get from customer service to fill in these gaps but I also thought I read where the more recent raNGOs came with the fix it piece. Search on Bosch induction slide in. I am getting the induction slide in and am interested in the fix for this. Also do you have a gap between back of range and the wall? The same thread says your counter needs to be 25" deep, if it is the usual 25.5 then you will have a gap (they do sell a piece that fills in the gap).

You should look at the GE Profile slide in. I think it's as deep as a freestanding range so you don't need a countertop filler behind it.

A stone match shouldn't be too difficult if you aren't too fussy. This isn't a high visibility area.

Before purchasing a slide-in, I'd make sure your tops are level across the opening. Place a 4" level in an "x" fashion to check, in addition to front to back.

This is important because slide-ins bear their weight on their feet, not on the top flange. If the tops aren't level, you'll have a gap on one side. The more out-of-level, the larger the gap. Unless you want your eggs sliding to one side of the pan, you can't just install the slide in out of level to close the gap.
