Update in DGS's broken arm

DGS saw the pediatric orthopedic Dr. today. His parents, as well as DH and I, would have lost everything we own today if we had been betting people. Thought he would require surgery for sure. He has a spiral fracture just below the shoulder. The fractured bones are laying parallel to each other. He said because it is a spiral fracure the bone length is actually only 1 cm. (0.4 inch) shorter than it would be normally. So.....they won't do anything about it. Just x-ray it again next week and then in 2 weeks. He said it will heal stronger than ever. If it would have been lower in the arm it would have required surgery. We are astounded!! Guess it's a good thing we weren't his doctor. LOL They will leave the splint on it until a later date. He said he may be able to return to school next week. Depends on how it feels. He also said "the thing" is a cyst on the bone that is common in children. If it had been a cancer or something else serious he would have been a very sick child by now (4 years later). Which was his way of confirming his diagnosis. Says it is nothing to worry about and the break will make the bone stronger. Thanks for all your good thoughts and prayers.

Betty
