Kitchen lighting ideas needed.

I am remodeling the kitchen in my ~1890 farmhouse, and I am looking for some lighting ideas. I think I would like to hang a couple pendants over the kitchen sink, but that is about as far as I have gotten. I have always had a dislike for recessed lights, but that may be my best option. The kitchen is approx. 12'x13' with a 10' ceiling, and will have cherry cabinets.

Here is a sketchup of what I have planned for layout. Please excuse the quality of the sketchup drawing, I am still learning how to use Sketchup.

Are you planning to keep the 189's farmhouse look in the kitchen? Or is it a more up to date kitchen design? If the former.. I would stick with more general room lighting appropriate for the design of the home versus fill the kitchen with recessed lights. If you do go recessed I would keep them very small and focused on specific task areas to add just a bit extra light the general lighting cant provide.

Well I'm not trying to make an 1890's kitchen, but I do want the kitchen to fit with the style of he house.

Somebody turned me on to cable lighting, which I really like. It looks like something that will be functional and look like it belongs. Has anybody else used cable mounted light fixtures, and if so, can you recommend any particular suppliers/brands?

If you dont='t have under cabinet lights. but some in. An LED track system would look good going in the opposite direction of the boxed light.

The light fixture just needs to have a little contrast to stand off the windows. I don't think more wood paneling is the ticket here the ceiling is already tongue and groove I would let that stand out as the feature and just paint the back wall. I would probably do dark bronze or black cabinet hardware.

LED lights are hyped but far from ideal for most people, including that many of them flicker and are harsh. You just need a light fixture you like more. You've got hex on the floor. I just want to mention that the exposed light bulbs are going to drive you nuts when all light up over a work area. IDK if you have already installed or purchased these. try to avoid a really bright LED and make sure you have dimmers that work with LED bulbs.
