Oh I think it would look great. Sure you can mix wicker with wood. I have it in my MBR, a mix of ruttan and wicker chair and ottoman. Mine is in a wood tone though. I would be inclined to actually spray it from white to a wood tone though then get some beautiful cushions in the colors you like.

I think it would work very nicely. I'd be inclined to redo all the pieces in a dark green, though. They'd stand out more, IMO, than white . . . but either way, they'd sure look pretty!

But which end to put the LS? Against the railing at the end? Against the wall? Guess it depends on size. But wood at one end, wicker at the other, or mixed?

Sure you can mix! We have a mix of white wicker, natural wood, and cast aluminum with resin wicker.

natal i live your porch!! we are gonna do our back porch in a few months. is that a screened porch?i love it!i like how you did the screens too-with the rails holding it up but alot of ppl close up the bottom and i like how all of your is open for light and air flow!! we are gonna do all ourselves since dh is pretty handy and my brother is a carpenter. how hard/expensive is the screenin g process?i see yours is the one you can hardly tell its screening?

NHB I love your new home, but can't imagine wanting to leave this one. Did you move out of town/state?

No, we sold it for several reasons.
#1 Downsizing (which was a mistake)
#2 DH wanted to be on the golf course
#3 Wanting more privacy from neighbors, but what really pushed us was the fact that the land behind us was going to be developed and we could have ended up with a house looking down into our family room/kitchen (see the property in below photo and out the windows.) I really miss the previous home. :(

I love wicker and think it would be quite pretty, but how wide is your porch? The larger rocker looks as though it takes up most of the space from the house to the edge of the porch and you want to be able to get around the pieces easily even when someone is sitting in them rather than feel crowded. The seats can't be too deep or people will need to turn sideways to pass. You may want to look for some smaller sized pieces-wicker is often pretty large-scale, especially if it is old (I'm thinking of the stuff we always had at the beach-big, old, comfy). Natal's and nhb"s porches look to be much wider and their wicker isn't as wide as many old pieces you find for sale. There are stores that do make small wicker furniture now, I believe.

Of course (and this just occurred to me), one simple solution would be to run the steps all the way across the length of porch-the middle one could even be wider and it would enable you to have great passing space for any size furniture you find-just step down to go around!

Thanks cyn - the porch is 7ft deep. We gain a little space by having no railing (it's only 18" high except at the end where we did need to put a railing). I don't know that we could have put a coffee table in front of a LS though. Might have to put things on angles. I just don't want chairs lined up along the wall like Cracker Barrel!

I would love to have a deep porch/sunroom like NHB and natal. Silly me, 7ft seemed huge on paper (with no experience to go by). There is one house in neighboring town I absoultely love - wide front porch with stone walls/planting beds and stone steps in front going down to front lawn with a pond. I think I love it so much b/c the porch is so big and has so much furniture you can tell it's made for entertaining. But extending the porch or stairs on ours would mean pulling out stonework and plants - not sure I'm up to that since we've spent the past 2 years putting them in. Our porch is just for us sitting out with coffee watching the birds in AM (though it's west), sitting and shucking corn in summer evenings, etc. Maybe we can build a big screened porch/sunroom out back instead of a deck off the FR/kitchen. But that's another post/another project.

I'll just have to keep looking for front porch furniture - any idea on size/depth/arrangement of furniture to avoid the "Cracker Barrel" look?

NHB - I love both your houses, you have done an awesome job designing and decorating. What did you ever decide to do with curtains in your DR?

We never did anything. Couldn't figure out how to make an arrangement without covering the trim.

Actually, most of my wicker is antique. The settee and the rocker (wide)were my grandmothers. I rocked all three of my babies in it. Two of the tables are old, too. The porch was 16' deep. The front porch on that house was 8' wide.

ajsmama - I think my daughters porch is even narrower than yours. She has some rockers and wicker, plus a railing and you have to enter the porch from the side. Everyone gets by fine.

You have a beautiful porch! Sorry the set's gone but I'm sure another wicker set will pop up. I think white would work but I really like how your wood rocker stands out against the house color - it would look great stained even darker.
