Pics wanted: Anyone have a combo craft room/laundry room? (x-post
Comments (7)I'm not sure I'll be much help, since ours isn't quite finished and fully operational yet. It sounds like what we're doing, but I don't have the washer and dryer for that room yet (our main laundry is upstairs), and we're just putting the craft/sewing area together. I can show you renderings of what it will look like finished. It's such a mess right now. We only have the counters and lower cabinets in place, but we sewed on them for Christmas projects and it seemed to work really well. (each corner serves as a sewing station...one for me with sewing-embroidery machine and serger, and one for the kids' machine) I only seem to have a floorplan already on photobucket and I'm at the wrong computer to add others, so I will have to do that later. In the meanwhile, here's the floorplan of the room. The kitchen is off to the right. The door on the left goes outside onto our side porch....See MoreWhat does your craft room/area look like ?
Comments (13)My "craft" room also is the cats room. It has their food and their litter box, and I also have to put my plants in there over the winter. I too have a small path to the table. I put shelves in the closet this summer and put the door in the basement. There great, if I could just get to it now. There used to be a hutch in there, but I have not seen it for awhile. There are plastic bins, boxes, and grocery bags for storage. I have to climb over a baby gate to keep the dogs out. There is also about 12 different items started on the table, or around the table, or somewhere in there. I will be glad when Christmas is over so I can try to clean it. I have to move all the stuff away from the closet tonite so I can get to the wrapping paper!!!!...See Morecraft sink area finally done
Comments (2)Our secret for both being engaged in a project is to spend alot of time on the planning so he knows exactly what I want and how I will use what he creates. we often draw it out. He loves to take notes. once he knows how I willuse something he is great at designing something that will meet all my needs. and even suggesting some improvements which I feel free to incorporate or say "Nah, sorry honey." For example he offered to build me narrow wooden shelves but then I said that dyes would stain it and it would start to look gross. he suggested the plastic covered metal grid and found a store 90 miles away that sold the stuff so we made a day of it with lunch and window shopping. Once we bought all the components I gave him the range of where he could hang it, giving him some disrcetion to move it all a few inches over or up if he needed to. then - and this is important- I totally disappear (unless he asks me to come look or help) until he is done with installation or construction. (actually I was busy baking him a peach pie- a great incentive in this house). when this project was securely mounted I hung up the baskets/shelves while he handed me the things that went into each part. SO now we can both take credit. I mixed up some new colors this morning and the space is working great. I have a skinny step stool in the closet for reaching the high items. It's inspiring to be so organized....See MoreWorkout Room / Craft Room ... Craft Room / Workout Room ...
Comments (38)I'm with those who've suggested creating a dual-purpose room. It sounds like you would use the crafting/project space, so why not set up half the room (or at least a corner) with a work space for yourself, and find some (gently used) fitness equipment your husband wants? Then you could see how you end up using the room before devoting more space than necessary to one purpose or the other. When I'm ready for another area to have to clean and maintain (which won't be for at least a couple of years), we'll finish our basement. We have the floor plan roughly worked out, and one room will be a combined fitness and project room. Right now the fitness stuff is set up in a corner of the unfinished basement and only sees use on the coldest mornings of the year, or occasionally when the kids are playing down there and it's too hot to run outside. I'm not sure it will get much more use even when finished as I'd much rather be outside moving around, but it's nice to have during periods of extreme weather. My sewing machine is now in a corner of our bedroom that's not ideal, but better than having it shut up somewhere. Projects end up all over the house, spread out in the living room or dining room. There's a kids craft table spackled and ready to be sanded sitting in the middle of the living room as I type. I know I would use a project space if I had a designated one, but the thought of having to clean (and decorate!) the basement when I'm still working on the main floors is too much for me at the moment....See MoreUser
