Yes and they are just like new. I wanted beadboard and it was only available on really high end cabinets. My GC had a local source for these. He also built in pullouts for me (see pic) I haven't posted the whole kitchen yet because the backsplash isn't done. These were primed and painted with two coats of Benjamin Moore latex semi gloss paint.

i did. actually, i had a local cabinet maker do it for me. I initially thought i could do this myself, ordered an unfinished door online and experimented. with paint and new doors, i'm sure i could have done a great job but i was hoping for a stain. it was not cheap but it was definitely cheaper than all new cabs.

I did and it looks like a new kitchen. We replaced our countertop, floor, and backsplash about 5 years ago and decided our cabinets were looking very shabby.

I had Home Depost come out and give me an estimate. They were very expensive. They wanted over $7,400 for my 22 door kitchen with maple doors. This included new drawers. I needed a couple of shelves replaced but they wouldn't do that.

I then found someone on the internet and he quoted me $4,300 but with better full panel doors. This included 2 new shelves and new full extension drawers. He covered all the oak with veneer.

He did a great job and even with the doors open it isn't really noticable that they were refaced. I am much happier with it.

I am just now charging my camera so will post a pic(hopefully) tomorrow.....
DH and I refaced our small kitchen and did it through Home Depot. There is a form you fill out located in the kitchen design area, take it home measure all your boxes and drawer openings, fill out the form and take it back to Home Depot where they send it off and your order comes in a few weeks. We picked it up and DIY. On the form there is a place to fill out for the hinges and style of cabinet. We just went with a white thermo foil, looks like a solid painted wood. We are happy with the outcome and I'm sure it saved us money to DIY.

twotogo, may I ask--how did you do the refacing of the frames? Was it a solid piece of surface and you cut the openings for it and adhered it to the existing face frame? Or did you leave the frames the same--were they white before?

I'm also wondering if there's a way to make ikea doors, with their hinge holes, work as face-frame doors for a wet bar area and a powder room we want to change out...

I did. We did it ourselves too. We did not do veneer, but painted the old cabinet boxes and new doors and drawer fronts to match. We had the doors custom-made by a cabinet door manufacturer online.

We removed all the old doors and hinges; removed all the drawers and then painted the boxes white. Then when our new doors and drawer fronts came we installed them with the new "hidden hinges". Does that make sense?

Hey, flyleft, I used some doors with the big holes in them on those cheap oak face frame cabinets in my kitchen. (I can't remember now why I bought doors with those holes in them.) I used the regular overlay hinges where just the little hinge edge is visible. It was a little tough getting the hinges secured because those huge holes were just in the spot where hinges needed to be. So some of my hinges had less than the optimal amount of screws holding them on. I think to do it properly, you'd have to fill in those holes. I'm sure the woodworking forum can give you some good advice for cutting out blanks and glueing them into the holes. Are you choosing IKEA for the style or the price? Seems like it would be easier to get a custom ordered door and stain or paint it yourself.

thanks for sharing pictures of your beautiful refaced cabinets! my husband prefers the wood tone, so we're considering getting the doors refaced... but at least one refinisher has told me that it's very hard to match the stain, very hard to do, very expensive, etc. maybe if i show my husband your beautiful kitchens, he will change his mind. ;)

clg, good idea about filling in the holes. I'm also concerned about how much of the box will show around the doors, and where the hinges will fit in relation to the doors, since the ones in there now are nowhere near full overlay...twill be interesting.
