Temp check: Stay warm everyone!

23 right now, going down to 18. Weather says it feels like 14 right now.

Thursday doesn't sound good. Chance of snow. Ground is frozen, so if there is snow, gonna stick.

So I'm gonna head to WM and get something to eat in the house.

What's yours like?

Wintersowers roll call Part 2- everyone check in!

This is my first year wintersowing. I've been saving my milk gallons all winter... I know 20 or so isn't many to you veterans, but to my poor hubby it's a lot, especially now that they're starting to line our FRONT walk (Well, it's the best winter sun! The neighbors won't mind when our yard is full of flowers!) I'm packing in 2-4 varieties per jug to make the most of my space, does anyone else do that? Does it work ok? I am trying perennials, annuals, herbs, and some vegetables. Peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, melons, squash, and basil are going to be started inside, but most other stuff is going in the jugs. Gosh I am SOOO nervous to put all my babies that I traded for so lovingly, out in the snow and miserable cold... what if nothing comes up? What if it does and then dies in a really cold night? What if everything survives the winter only to drown in April rain??? I guess I should be reassured by all the success stories I see on GW! Lori

Bill, I know the local weathermen always comment on how great the dry air is when we occasionally have it in the summer. Yes, it FEELS better, but it's a lot harder on the plants. I actually prefer the humidity and I know that our region is so green because of it. Even when we go thru droughts (like this summer), the humidity keeps everthing surviving. Well, we just got 5" of rain over several days from the tropical depressions, so rain is not an issue anymore. LOL! But there is no question that plumerias do enjoy humidity. Mine put on extraordinary growth over the summer time. I'm not sure the humidity makes more intense flowers without the heat though.

We're having a pool party (for dd's birthday) on the 12th...we figure it couldn't get worse than last year when it was 62 and drizzly - but, we heated the pool to 90 and the girls had a blast. Gotta love it. Well, it could get worse, it could flat out rain. So here's to hoping that it warms up soon! I know we're going to be eating crow soon when it's 100 day after day after day after day and we are dying!

Pot Roast has to stay in oven 7 hours, temp please!
Q
Comments (13)
My oven goes to 170F, so it's always in the "safe" zone, I guess. If I were going to cook the roast for 7 hours, I'd still go for 225F, probably. I'm assuming it's covered and being braised, not roasted? And it also depends on how large the "large" roast is. 5 lbs? 7 lbs? Bigger? Smaller? It depends on the roast, of course, but I figure about half an hour per pound at 350, so if you have a 10 pound roast, that's going to be 5 hours at 350F, and longer at lower temperatures. So my answer is......depends on the size of the roast! Annie

Glenda, like you, we are having colder temps than normal for our area.

I think, it is a good idea to be well stocked, so you don't need to get out when/if it gets slick.

This morning was 22 degrees here, when I left and drove to Tulsa. Only 18 there, when I got there. It never got past 24 today.

Supposed to get really cold, like about 2 degrees here ( yes, you northerners for us that is REALLY COLD!) by Thursday.

My road is still icy from the snow we got at Christmas.

It's 10 degrees here in Tulsa. This is not normal. We've had snow on the ground since Christmas Eve. I had a hard time getting my two youngest kids dressed for school this morning because neither believed that you can have snow on the ground and not go to school.

North Central Ohio at 1:10 am, 25° with a wind chill of 18° going down to 21. It has snowed all day, and, with out looking out the window, according to radar, the supposedly light snow has stopped temporarily. still supposed to get 1-3 more, and probably more tomorrow.

Tami...who should be in bed where it's warm!

ZERO

It's getting better :)

I walked down the lane to the mailbox without a coat on! I have couple layers of clothes on though....

There is no wind, the sun is shining, and it is cold enough, that the humidity is low. It doesn't feel bad at all! If the wind picks up - that will be a different story.

I have all my shades pulled up and loving the solar radiation!!!!!

Was -14° last night, and it is now -3° at 11:00 AM.CST
Supposed to get snow tonight or tomorrow. I hope it isn't to much, as my DD is coming in from Los Angeles, for my DGS benefit. She's gonna freeze her tush off. Though born and raised here, she's lived in California for 25 years.
